It must be a secret. Guys who attended don’t know.

Chris Rud took first
Young Daniel second or third
Brain fade about the other top three
Joe Gilbert had no appearance points and wasn't in the tp three, as I recall....

Joe Gilbert was flying his FAI plane and therefore did not get appearance points. That was a significant handicap for him. There were a lot of good flyers in Expert putting in some very nice flights, so the scoring was very tight (glad I wasn't judging - it had to be tough!) If you add, say, 17 points to Joe's score you can see where he would have come out. For instance, in my case I would have been 17.5 points down from him instead of tied with him.
Seeing Joe and Chris Rudd fly gives me hope for some high placements at the Worlds. They can really put up some good flights. They really are impressive.

Even if you just add 15 points to Joe's score it would have been 587.5. It's OK, he is concentrating on the worlds right now and rightfully so.

One point. The whole contest was over hours before PAMPA stunt was completed, as usual. So a lot of people had left before the event was finalized.

Bill Werwage's got 3rd place at the 1970 AMA Nats, three weeks after winning the FAI World Championship.
AMA & FAI are two different events with different rules, scoring, and winners.

Wow what a shoot out!
From what I gathered from one of Sparkies videos is Joe got his plane the first of the week. So he was just getting to know the Blue Max. 👍🏼

Yup! We expect great things!
