Anybody have a cure?

I have had two planes in the bones stages for about 4 months and can't find the drive to get them finished - granted that I have my son now who is 4 months old (coincidence?) 

Anybody have a cure for the builders block that I am facing?

Well not sure I can give you a cure, but if you box one up and send them over the pond maybe I can cover it for you test fly it and then send them back when I am done??   

Just kidding. Yea sometimes life gets in the way of our hobby. But that is a good thing.
Enjoy Jr while he is at home. Ryan leaves in a few months for collage. He will be leaving the nest.

Here is something that might help. Get one of them done and hang it up in his room.
My dad built a RC Red Mono-coop with Black scallops on the wing back in the early 60's and hung it over my bed. I can remember it to this day.

I hope you get over it real quick. You build some nice looking stuff.

Having a new one in the house tends to cut down on sleep.  That could be what is killing your drive.  Plus if this is your first one then the whole priority thing changes even if you dont realize it.

One thing that really helps me is to go out and get some flights in.  That will really get the blood pumping again.

When I was young I could build around the clock but now I have the same problem.  Here is  what I do to get around builders block.  I set a time of one hour per day to work on my plane.  I find that if I set asside one hour it moves a plane along and still allows time for other things.  Some times I will work longer, but most days by the end of the hour I have had enough.  The good thing about this is you will see progress and the plane will get built.  Maybe not fast, but it will get built.

Wynn, just have the little shaver help you build. He can hold things for you, hand you the knife, pick up that dropped screw from the floor, the possibilities are endless. And you can always put your building board over the crib so you can keep a close eye on him when he is napping. I am sure if you try just a few of my helpful tips, you will be cranking out airplanes real fast again.

  I have been in a building slump now for four or more years.  I got so disgusted  with all the PAMPA politics, BOm controversy and other argumentive issues that seemed to be going around that it just turned me off on all aspects of modeling.  I am just now starting to get a little steam generated toward modeling ---- both flying as well as building.  Hopefully the urge will continue.  Of course, a little surgery  and then a minor heart problem sure didn't help any.

Wynn - I use 2 behavioral tricks on my own odd psyche.  The first  is to sweep up the shop.  Dunno why, but this can revitalize me, especially if it has been let go too long.  The second is to have only one project under way at any one time.  Having multiple projects open makes the work look bigger than it is, hence you loaf or do other things.  BTW, you might want to join the procrastinator's league.  We're about to convent the 1968 annual meeting.  Tom H.

  Marvin;  Do not read all the crap on the internet. In the Stunt News do not read the items that pertain to the politics. I have found that we do not discuss these issues at contests. Perhaps others do not find this to be the case but I do. Bom etc will never be resolved in our time anyway.

Building slump;   I too fall into this and I have no excuse.  I do say "do not build if you cannot get into it." Your work will suffer.

We need to ask Greg just how many kids he has raised.....

I have built and flown with kids strapped to my back.  Been yelled at by the little woman when she came home and found our precious daughter's hair and back covered with balsa dust when the building table doubled as a changing table.  If you want to build, you will build.

Remember though, this is a hobby.  Something we do that we enjoy in our spare time when we want to.  When you are ready, you will build again.  If you need inspiration, you can either crash or give away all of your current airplanes, then you will have no choice but to build.

Don't worry, the desire will return.

Wynn, There a bunch of good suggestions here that have covered everything I could think of. I think that one of the most important things ,as judged by the responses, is that it is a problem to just about everybody at times. If you have enjoyed building in the past, you will again.

Hang in there and give that new baby a gentle hug from each of us. I still give my baby boy a hug every time I see him even though he is 43 years old and has been in every major conflict that the Navy has been in during the last 20 years or so.

I'm in the same boat as Wynn.  I have two planes in purgatory at present, a Thunderbird II and  Vector 40.  I got got the Vector all framed up, but then I bought a Thunderbird at the Southeastern Model Show, and got interested in it.  Now I have two planes in limbo, one in bones, the other covered and in primer. I have not been able to put them on the front burner, and now I'm on vacation fly fishing in the Adirondacks.  However, I won't force the issue when I get back to Florida because experience has taught me that if I do, the results will show in the workmanship, and at my skill level that's not good.  I'm reasonably sure that the urge will hit when I get back, but if not, then I'll just fly.

Take last years model, fly in a local competition - come back fired up with enthusiasm - hide the 'honey do' jar and get stuck in.

Losing the 'honey do' jar for a while is the most important part of this plan, and it can be done.

My little boy is now almost 9 months old and I do get to do more than just thinking about CL from time to time.
