Title: ??? Anybody...
Post by: Bootlegger on June 30, 2010, 11:31:26 AM
Tried shooting auto clear over some Rustoliem color paint?  I put the Rust over clear not knowing that isn't supposed to work, so thought about shooting auto clear.
The rustolium is about three months old, should be cured.
       Thanks, Gil

Try a test piece first!!!!! even if you have to make a piece with fresh paint. That will let you know if you are going to have a bad reaction. Also make the first two coats very light. If you can get away with two light coats you should be OK to shoot like you normally do. I have never tried auto clear over Rustoliem, but I have used it over various other things without  many problems.

I agree with Derek!  But, so far, I have not had a single problem shooting Automotive Urethane clear over anything.  Started with Dupont Chromaclear (which they changed a while back) and now have NAPA house brand *bargain* grade auto urethane (would have to look at the can to get the name), still a 4-1 paint, but about as cheap a gallon as the quart of Chromaclear was.  No difference in usage or it holding up for the past 4 years.  In fact, I spilled some raw fuel on the Dupont once and I had to repair it.  Not so with the *cheap* NAPA. ?????  YMMV
