Well Elwyn, not any rain yet from Ike but we sure got the winds today.

The Ringmaster ruled today if that tells you anything. District 8 cleaned up.
Ike and the MSC

Well the Memphis Stunt Classic 2008 is history. Because of the high winds that are forecasted for tomorrow the decision was made to fly all events today. The wind was still bad today. Ryan and I got to the field a little late today because we were just going to put up a few practice flights. That is when we found out about the change in the schedule. I chose not to fly, but Ryan stepped up and few intermediate for the first time.  He did not know the pattern and John Ashford was very kind and allowed him to fly. I was very thankful that we did not have to rush and John took all the presser off Ryan’s pit man. (Me!)  Thanks John!!!  Ryan took second place as dad sat out in the center circle and called out the maneuvers. His first attempted at the advance pattern. Made dad proud.
The wind did not cause any crashes that I am aware of but there were a few crashes. Joe Gilberts Mr. Hyde had the wings fold up. But I think that plane had a few repairs. I saved the rudder to hang on my wall. We got to meet some old friends that we had not seen for some time. Always good to see old friends.
After the first round Ryan put up his Bi-Slob for half time entertainment. Thanks Mike for letting borrow a little fuel and setting the needle on the Fox. Next year Mike and Joe Gilbert said they were going to bring there’s because Ryan looked like he was having way to much fun.
Here are a few photos from today.

Yep, Mr Hyde has been "stitched" back together a few times. In the post crash photo it looks like the failure was in a new spot.

I did not see it until it was on the way down, but people said the wings just folded.

Either way is was a total loss of the plane. The engine and hardware will find it's way into something else I am sure.

I had a grand time...in spite of flying in a hurricane. Louis and the Millington crew get all of my kudos for the type of meet they put on. For those of you who have not attended the Memphis Classic; need to do so next year. Put it on your calendar.
Norm

P.S. Don't forget...there are more meets to come before the end of the year. The Model Aviators of South Arkansas will be hosting a meet the first weekend of November. H^^

Well done everyone.  I wish I could score close to 500 in perfect conditions  n~

You know it was bad when there are so many passes in the second round.  I was going to attend this year and it would have been my first contest.  Sorry I missed it but at the same time I'm sort of glad.  I'll be there next year.

Ty is right about the wind.  When I took the picture of the wind gauge, the wind was blowing at 18 mph, gusting to 27.  Here are the remaining scores...

Hyde died a spectacular death, the old boy taught me a lot and brought home several trophies in his day. Just flew it one to many times and it was very windy, wings folded in the out side loop of eights going almost straight up, the prop looked very big as turned toward center of circle.

I had plenty of splattage in my time. Had a one explode in mid air, hit the pavement and all sorts of attitudes and even had a horse once stomp on a plane. It's never fun to say goodbye.

Jim Lynch and I were judging this flight.  When the wings folded and the plane turned upwind, Jim and I considered running; however, we quickly pondered the possiblity that the plane could finish the pattern.  So, we stayed in place and hoped for the best.
