Another valuable lessons learned

OK, not as exciting at Jacks post but I still learned a lesson.

Don’t  use C/A with your good jeans on. 

I had the part sitting on my leg and thought I just put a drop of glue to “tack” two pieces together. I felt my let get hot and I now have a nickel size patch of C/A on my good jeans. The wife will have something to say about this!

Go in her bathroom vanity and grab her Fingernail Polish Remover.  Put a folded cloth inside the pant leg under the glue spot, take a 2nd rag and soak a corner in the remover. Just keep dabbibg at it and keep it wet - it will get gummy and you can scrape it off.

But if you let it stay forever, you will have a hole the size of the glue drop!   The CA is so hard, the material tears... been there, got the t-shirt (and it, too has the holes! )  And forget sanding a part resting on your leg........ instant (well maybe not INSTANT!) *Designer Jeans*!

According to a few post about CA it should be sooo hard and brittle that you could put the offending glue over a small steel plate and tap away with a small hammer until the CA is crushed like a lump of coal to a powder leaving the fabric CA free.  NOT!!  How about putting a small bend into the spot and rolling it between you thumb and fingers.  It should be sooo brittle that the CA falls away and your best jeans are now CA free.  NOT!!  Bill's method is good but I usually end up with a spot about twice as big.  I just ware the spots as a badge of pride.  My wife doesn't see it that way.  I thought I was bad controlling CA until a got a look at Leo Mehl pants.  It's a secret sign we use to find fellow builders in a large crowd.

Between dope, glue and super glue, I am afraid to wear my "work" pants, shoes or tee shirts in public. I may get donation for a cup of coffee from some bleeding heart.  If I tried to explain how and why, "they" would put me in the rubber room down at the whacko farm.

I've got several sets of jeans and shirts that I'm keeping so if the Obama thing wipes out our medicare and social security, I can sit on street corners with a sign "Will work for food".

I think it is a law, at least it seems to be in my case if I am wearing decent pants and am anywhere near the ca I will get it on the pants.  If I do as I should and change into old stained patched beater jeans before working on the model it is guaranteed there will be no ca on them when I am finished.

Acetone will also soften and remove the glue, but I'm afraid your "good" jeans may never be the same.  
Cut them off just above the glue spot and tell your wife that you just bought a new pair of "cutoffs".  I hear they are coming back into style in Memphis.

If you have a source of nitro methane it will soften and remove the glue.

Actually, AMBROID was more fun in the 50's. Made glue filets with the orange stuff (etc.), wiped fingers off on your jeans. After several models completed, stand jeans up in the corner when you went to bed!

just use lots of debonder on it, and blotter the mix, it will eventually come out.

I usually relegate that pair of jeans to my work clothes pile and buy a new pair of jeans....cheaper than enough balsa to build a half/A flying model.
