Most likely an Estate find with a clueless seller.

  Hey, that's a precious ANTIQUE.

Seriously, there seems to be some sort of "how to make money on eBay" plan that involves listing something with an unspeakable buy-it-now price, with about a month or so timeout. If it doesn't sell, knock off $5, and try again. At that rate this one will be selling in the year 2200, but it definitely ensures you get the highest possible price.

This one is almost as good and along the lines of what Brett mentioned. I surf the local Craig's List for all sorts of stuff and have come up with some real nice modeling finds, and no eBay hassles. The guy in this add just won't take a hint, and he re runs the add at least once a week, and had been posted for at least a year now. I sent him an email telling him that what he had was a C/L model air plane tank, and that if the outside of the tank looked that bad, the inside looked that way also, and I would really doubt anyone would be interested in buying his tank when a shiny new one is about the same price. I never did get a reply from him, and he keeps rerunning the add every week. I ought to round up all the old boogered up tanks I have, sell them to him for 5 bucks each and tell him he can double his money with a bigger inventory!
P.T Barnum would be proud of these guys!

  Type at you later,

Now now Joe, the 63% taxes are needed and completely justified.
How else are those crack moms with twelve kids or the millions of illegal immigrants gonna get by. And lets not forget the  funding for our environmental needs. Do you have any idea what it costs to run studies of the endangered Spinney Lipped Three Toed Swamp Gnat?
When you stop and really think about it, our government has spent our money wisely and has always had our best interest at heart.

Some of these things really crack me up, like the "Very Rare OK Cub O'fortynine B" I once saw listed. Then there are the little notes for whacked out old engines missing timers, tanks or what ever; "a great addition to your engine collection or just to use!"

The Challenger plans are a good deal though. This is Rolland McDonald's tri gear version of the Detroit Stunter and unlike the Detroit Stunter plans that show a D tube wing because the mag editors did not think people would be able to figure the actual wing out, the Challenger plans have the original I-Beam wing that both the Detroiter and Challenger were actually built with. This is the I-beam that made the the Strathmore members actually used! You can build either plane from these plans. Just a change of gear.

I remember those kits.  They came from Japan, but too expensive for me at the time.   I think they were about $20.00 or more.   A guy in our club built the C-47 and P-38 kits.   Big airplanes and with no throttles in the day, he had to kick off his shoes to have traction.   Also don't knock the landing gear as it did it job.   Now to a collector that may be a good price, looking at the pictures.

It doesn't look like it got any cheaper...

I wonder if Windy knows he is selling those planes and asking those kind of prices.  IIRC Windy was very big on "Pass it around" and let everyone get a turn.  I have flown the Miss Ashley, that very one that is listed, and it was a great flying plane.

Hey Doc...
I think that was probably Gene Dunham...who flew it.  Not sure if he or Al Haupt built it...the C47 that is.
That would have been about 1959 or 1960.

As well as "pass it around" Windy also sold his planes to customers if he no longer wanted them and someone made him an offer. Windy custom built planes for customers much in the same way Tom Morris and other cottage industry suppliers do today. A fully built , finished ready to fly plane by Tom Morris is in the $1,199.95 to $1,799.95 range according to his catalog (and it is worth every penny you pay in my opinion) Although I don’t have a catalog of all of Windy’s finished plane sales I know most were over the $1000 mark and often a lot more, they were usually private sales. The pricing for the listings are not out of order on that basis IMHO.

Re: "I wonder if Windy knows he is selling those planes and asking those kind of prices".

I believe there is a negative inference in your post which is somewhat disappointing Doug, if you feel Windy should know about these re-sales and doesn't already, you can always email him or the seller (me) to get more background. If you think the price is too high for the hundreds of hours of work in their builds or the pedigree of the model, you don’t have to buy.
