Another Interesting Flying Day

We had a pretty nice Wednesday morning flying session at Auburn (Scobee) Municipal Airport today. Pete Peterson was the instigator, with Rod Claus, Mike Haverly, Gary Letsinger and myself in attendance. More trimming and twiddling, as usual. Pete's got his Caprice (not Cavalier) flying very well, with his awesome Aero Tiger .36 working superbly. Rod was flying his Ornamental Plus/.46LA...I saw some rust falling off. Rod hasn't been flying a lot lately.
Mike is movin' stuff around on his "Mo Iche Do" electron device, and getting it better. Gary is still breaking in his B.25 powered S-1 Ring'ster. Got a bit of a warp in the wing, somehow. Next time, maybe he'll get it inverted? I got in 3 flights with my Eagle 7/.46VF. No loud noises or sudden stops, anyway.

My 4th flight ended not too well. I fumbled the glow ignitor removal after starting and it got ate by the prop. One prop and one glow ignitor toasted. Got the Sub-C NiCad out of the ignitor, but the rest is pretty much done for. Those remote plug-in boosters are a lot safer, I'm thinkin'.    Steve

Then again maybe you should be more alert.   Thanks for the report on the guys.  If it wasn't so dad blamed far to Topeka I would try to get the one or two out to fly during the week day.

Dispite the loss of a trusted ol' ingnitor and prop, your day went better than mine! Last Sunday my down line broke at the handle and I watched my TT do about a dozen veeeery tight inside loops before making a rather abrubt stop. The fuse broke cleanly at the trailing edge of the wing, giving me TT part 1, and TT part 2. I clamped up the fuse and made use of some 30 minute epoxy that evening.

I'm refinishing the sore spot now, hope to have it back in the air no later than this Sunday. Oh well.

We'll miss you at the GSSC, I hope you feel well enough to travel soon. I'll keep a lighted hot dog in the window for you just in case.

Doc, I was being as careful as I could, but I've got arthritis in both thumbs and sometimes, they go wonky.

Brian...Thanks for the glowing hotdawg in the window...brought a schmile to my face. I had a hotdog for lunch today; just training for GSSC 2012. If I'm not too nauseous, I'll have another for dinner. Next October, we will be getting close to celebration time, but since WA votes entirely by mail now, I can be all voted and free to wander the Wild Wild West. It would be super to get a string of contests scheduled, so I could go to Fall Fallies, GSSC, then one in LV, Denver, Tulsa, Dallas or Houston and Baton Rouge...those Cajun Burgers are singing their siren song to me.    Steve

A bit off topic but since it was brought up: Brian,  suggestion - before you get too far into the re-finishing of you TT, cut a slot crossing over the break and epoxy in some sort of reinforcement bridging the two pieces. A trimmed popsicle stick  will work if you want to be retro. It will reinforce the butt joint between the two pieces in a high stress area and be almost invisible when finished. C you Friday.
