You don't see this model anymore but it was common in the 50's

You are correct Trixy 45. I saw one of these in a guys cellar workshop around mid 50's I always wanted one so I got the plans years ago but never built it as I heard all the bad comments about it. Bob Hunt saw one online and made very positive comments so I figured I would build one. The construction is very much like the flying wing the Reactor. There is no big cutout in the body for the wing just a slot for the plywood center piece. No center section planking. Lew use to hand out short kits and I had one around 1952 but didn't have plans so I used the wing to build a combat model around 1955. Dave Cook list the plane as 1951 so I believe it is old time legal. The Kit came out around 1954-55. I am building another one of Lew's seldom seen models the  cheeked cowl inverted engine Barnstormer model. The wing is slightly larger and it also is Old Time legal.

That is a neat looking model Ed. It will be interesting to hear the flight report. What engine are you going to use? Excellent workmanship.

Cool airplane. What L/G configuration does it use?

Please keep us posted on your progress. ;D

The plans show a dural gear bolted to each side of the body right in front of the wing. I have had the gear in a box waiting for this plane for years.
It also had flat plate wing tips that are 1/4" larger than the wing tip rib. Barry Baxters sells the plans. There is a picture on his site
http://www.controllineplans.com/frameset2.htm
I am going to use a Evo .36 on it.

Well I have to say that I like the looks of it much better in your construction photo here than in the old artists conception drawing on the website.

I had one of those in 1968 when I was at Langly AFB. The only thing different about mine was that I put a J Roberts system in it and flew the wheels off it doing touch and goes and other foolish things. I used to loop , in/out and fly inverted and wing overs but not much more so I can't say how good it is. However, mine gave me a lot of enjoyment. I left it there, wonder who got it.

Here is the picture from Berry's site. The picture is not acurate to the plans but close.

Bill Little answered the wheel question in the Old Time Stunt section.  The wheels belonged to Bob Elliot the 1953 National stunt champ. Thirty five years ago Bobs dad gave me all his and Bobs equipment that he had left from the 50's. These wheels came off one of the speed dollies.
