Title: An invitation to all with zero postings
Post by: Keith Spriggs on June 25, 2007, 10:57:59 AM
As I look at the list of members I see that a large number of people have registered and never posted anything. I assume that all of these people had an interest in control line flying. If you are one of these people  who had that much interest, we are all interested in what you are planning, building, flying, or have flown in the past. I know I speak for almost everybody when I say "we love to get acquainted with anyone who has the remotest interest in c/l flying".
Please share as little or as much as you want to with us. I am sure you will receive a welcome from a great bunch of people from experts to people like me. When you read this just hit "reply" and go for it. With your help this can be the largest posting this board has ever seen.

Thank you Jim for being the first one to "break the ice". Hope you like living in Fullerton.  Who knows there may even be someone else on this board from near there.

It's my second post, hope you all don't kick me off. . . just kidding.  I'll share my trip to Brodak long story short.  Went to fly my new arf Strega in Beginner stunt.  Things were going great until I did the horizontal eights and lost tension.  Plane pancaked in. I took the photo the next day with my phone camera, so it's not too good, but you get the idea.  I must say that after I finished I was ready to pack up.  There are some really GREAT people out there.  Kent Tysor was helping me, mentioned to Windy that I wrecked and the next day Windy offered me his Strega arf.  I was awe struck.  Here I am a beginner (3rd year in attendance, 4th contest ever) and Windy offers me his plane.  I humbly declined as I brought my arf Nobler with me, and didn't want to jeopardize anyone else's plane.  It was great to see how wonderful people are at these events.  I really have a great appreciation of new friends.

I am sure you wont get kicked off because you had enough bad luck already. The good people that you met are pretty typical of almost all the C/L fliers that I ever met. I just gotta make it to Brodaks next year.

Hi all,
I'm new to this forum.  I am just getting back in to control line after 30+ years.  I'm fortunate to live near some long time modelers.  I pick up a Flying Clown from Al Culver along with an OS .15 RC engine.  I mounted the engine and wired the throttle open.  Then I found my old Easy Just Hot Rock handle and 52 foot lines and I was in business.  After the engine quit on the first flight, I put the handle down and then discovered that I was about to fall down from dizziness. n~  A few more flights and I was use to spinning in a circle, although I have since learned to walk around instead of spinning.  ;)
Years ago a friend of mine and I use to fly with Pat Johnston.  He lives about 50 miles from me now.  I looked him up in the phone book and got his advise on starting again.  I purchase a Brodak Vector .40 through him and bought an OS .46LP from Tower Hobbies.  I had some longer lines and a handle that I had just received from Big D.  Today is my second day of flying the Vector and I am slowly getting more adventurous, very slowly though.  ;)
Our home is on 33+ acres. I had laid out a flying field for my RC airplanes next to the house.  The field is 80 feet wide, so I mowed out an 80 foot arc from the center of the field and that gives me a 160 foot circle to fly in.  Most of the time the prevailing wind is such that I can take off from the grassy field (the 80 Foot arc will need some more leveling), but I have yet to land on the grass.  :P  The engine seems to quit so that I never make it back around.  I need to learn how to whip the plane further then I can now I guess.  :)
Well my break is over so I going out to fly some more.
Best regards,

Bill Griffith

Correction,
The .46 is an LA-S, I replaced the remote needle valve with a venturi and NV from a .40 LP.

I thought I had a post here, but I guess not. I've been very active over on the Brotherhood of the Ring site. I'm flying a "Super-Duper" Clown I built from Super Clown plans that had been enlarged 15%. Wingspan about 44" with a 40LA converted for C/L.

I'm building a Ringmaster Jr. that hopefully will look like the one I'm holding in the picture by my login name, then it will be time to start on the RSM Ringmaster that I got to replace the S-1 that I splatted at the Ringmaster Round-up in Houston in April.

Started flying C/L back in the 50's, dropped out to get private & commercial license, flew full-scale for a while then got back into modeling through R/C. Now returning to my roots.

I was an inn LL~ocent person who became victum of stunt hanger after a flying friend called me and said you are on the stunt grunts on the stunt hanger. I had to join to see what Art was talking about. Sure enough it was ME 40 years ago on the stunt grunts that is taken care of by Don Shultz, Or Shultzie as we like to call him. He is a little demented but we like his sence of humer even though we don't enderstand it! So I answered some of his posts and now you can't shut either one of us up. This is what this forum is about and making new friends is what this is all about. Don't be afraid to post anything. It will get a lot of coments and somewhere down the line you will realize this is one big faturnity of controliners that are great guys. LL~ LL~ LL~ HB~>Welcome

Well said Leo. I have been hanging around here for almost a year now and I agree it is a great forum with great people.  Don't be intimidated by the fact that there are some expert builders a fliers here. They haven't run me off yet and the only part of the pattern I can do pretty consistently is the take off and the landing. If I can get the take off I always get a landing of some kind.
