Title: Ambush 15, Sheet wing stunt trainer Allen Brickhaus, Bill Netzeband
Post by: Brent Williams on April 02, 2014, 06:39:48 AM
Looking for some information on the sheetwing stunt trainer that Allen Brickhaus and Bill Netzeband developed called the Ambush 15.

From digging around here a bit, apparently there was an article on it in the May 1994 Model Builder.

Seems like a fairly rugged little plane.   I have a few FP.10's and .15's that would likely be a good match.

- Any experience or info out there in the collective regarding this plane?
- Any clear plans in PDF form?

If you followed or watched on the Ebay, there was a set of plans being sold just recently.   I am still looking for the 1/2A plans for the ones my son and I built many years ago.  The was a service man at Fort Leavenworth that was making the kits when I got ours.  Literally wore the planes out flying them.  Maybe I will do a search on the bay.

Now I've done the search.   Type in   ambush plan   in the search box.   Now are you the one that is selling these plans?

Hi John, No...I am not the one selling the plans.  I saw the plans up on eBay for the Ambush 15 and thought I would ask if any of you have experience with this plane.

What piqued my curiosity was the thread about Allen's volunteer work with the kids,  "Patton Street Pirate's," where they build the 1/2A Ambush version.  The plane has a cool angular look and some clever building practices.  It looks easy to build and seems like a nice change of pace from the commonly recommended Flite Streak trainer.

Better or worse, not so sure, but definitely different.

Thanks to those that sent the PM's.  The lo-res plans from ebay give enough info to build the plane, just curious if anyone has a more clear PDF.
No worries either way.   :)

Bill Netzeband gave me permission to kit the (1/2-A) Ambush a few years ago and sent me the files.  I can have some printed for those that might want them.

Allen Brickhaus (with some help from others, myself included) was in the process of doing an article on the Ambush for Flying Models when he died.  He planned to present both 1/2-A and .15 size versions, and probably a couple of variations on the 1/2-A.
