Greyhound has discontinued their shipping service as of last week. Many of us have enjoyed  using this service  to ship model airplanes in the past.

Has anyone had luck using another shipping service for model airplanes?

You should probably check with any of the other shippers.  They all appear to use the same cost figures as the UPS, maybe just a touch cheaper.

   Has any tried that service called U-Ship? You post what you need shipped and people bid on it like an auction, but in reverse. The lowest bidder gets the job. I know some guys in the vintage dirt bike scene use it. There are some guys that take advantage of the internet, and also travel for their job, and put out notices of their movements and if some one needs a bike moved, they agree on price and the bike moves when the driver makes his trip. Guys that are traveling cross country for contests and such could transport models the same way. Might not be very lucrative but will get the job done.

I am with you 100%.  I've handled bulky and/or heavy items from estates and had outstanding luck with uship.

It's a little like Uber for stuff.  Can be a useful transaction from the the point of view of consignor, consignee, transportation provider and web platform.  The drivers often love the road, the destinations and the freedom to work when they please.  My impression is the best drivers are also careful planners and communicators.

Any updates on shipping airplanes to various locations? I am building a few take-a-part ships that I would like to be able to take to some different contests around the country since I retired and have a lot of frequent flyer miles. Problem is what can you ship? Seems like electrics might be easier but would like to do glow also.

Batteries and glow fuel would have to be shipped UPS Ground or sourced locally. Best bet is to arrange for fuel to be provided by a local yokel. I mixed fuel for Gary Gingerich's Yatsenko Yak when he flew into both Eugene, OR and Edmonton, Alberta. I'd never met Gary before, and he was happy with the fuel.    Steve

PS: I'd highly recommend going to the Edmonton contests.
