AMA Renewal/Official Ballot
« on: September 27, 2010, 11:22:51 AM »

I just got my renewal/ballot and I have a question. How is it that this can be called an election when only one person is running for each office unopposed. What's wrong with this picture? Write ins don't cut it.

AMA officers get little respect and no salary, in most cases.  If only one person is running for an office, they will get my vote if only because I have to admire anyone willing to put up with the flack which always comes with the job.

Indeed.  If it's like most of the clubs that I've been in there's arm-twisting involved in getting someone to run for any given position at all.

There is nothing wrong with the picture. When the term of office is over there must be an election. It matters not how many are running for that office, one, two or twenty. When it's over you must be voted in again. Just because you are the only one running you STILL must be voted in. If you do not like the one running, run against him.

I'm not qualified.

Neither are most of those sitting in the positions.  S?P  Simply check the requirements, file for your "Leader" status and if you're an not AMA Open member for 3 consecutive years, ask for a waiver. It won't be the first time that has happened, nor even the second one.

Heck, you get a pretty shirt, some expense monies and all the folks at the flying fields say, "WOW, he is an AMA officer." The AMA EC is the AMA's Board of Directors. As a director of an IRC 501 (c) (3) organization, a Director can file unreimbursed expenses as same as employee business expenses. As a director you need to be aware of many things such as different airplanes, engines, radios, etc., etc. Those purchases are "Business Expenses."
Don't forget that all your trips to the LHS, to the flying sites, and even to a place where modelers might gather to "discuss modeling things" on a bad wx. day - more expenses. It is not all bad work, just time consuming.

Phil, why don't write ins count??? On my Ballot Section 3 is for write ins. Instructions say and I Quote " Vote for one of the listed candidate(s) by darkening the appropriate box, or write in the name of anyone else. " Is yours different?

It's not that write ins don't count, the votes are usually scattered among too many people to do any good.

Obviously, voters are not unhappy with the regime in Muncie, as compared to those we have the opportunity to depose on November 2nd.

I think the AMA is following the by-laws.  This has happened in the past of people running un-opposed.  With all the complaints and gripes who would want the job.  We need to thank the people who take the position. H^^

There are 2 specific cases I know of where DVPs were left off the ballot by the "Nominating Committee" (the other DVPs) because the NM did not like doers.  S?P  Both of these cases did launch a Write-In campaign and were reelected.

If one does not like the person on the ballot, then writing in another name gives a good indication that the incumbent does have some issues.
