I'm sure that there are folks out there with 4 and maybe even 3 digit AMA numbers - What's yours ?
(mine is five digits: 28386)

Got my CD in the 70's and it changed to 609. Wish I could still get my old number from the 50's that lapsed while I was in the Navy, but I tried and AMA has no record and I can't find anything from then that has it marked antwhere. But I did find my first flight box.

7544 since I was a Junior in 1957. I still have all my licenses in baseball card folders.

Became a CD in the late 60's. In the early 70's (I think) AMA offered 3 didget numbers to CDs. but since I already had a small number, I had no reason to change.

Got mine in 1956 anb have never let it lapse even tho I didn't go to contests for a few years. When I got my CD license in the 70's I also was offered the deal to take a three digit number, but, all my planes had my number on them. Having fun, DOC Holliday

I HATE my AMA number. Too many 5's and 9's. Then the "3" at the end looks even stupider, like a trailer or something.

Mine is 10029. I got it in the early 80's and I had let it lapse til 2002 when I renewed and was given the same number again. Guess you have to die to loose it.

This is a number I like, but if you get vinyl stickers to put your numbers, on you would be left with 1 5 left over (the one's I got came with two sheets)

I got mine in late '62, I guess. A 4 digit number, that I still have, tho I let it lapse for a year or maybe two. I've been a CD since sometime in the '70's, but had to take the skoolin' to renew that. "How many freakwencies r there?" "What is required to fly a turbojet at a Fun-Fly?" "There are 80 R/C magazines. Name any twenty of them."

I think I became an AMA member in about 1952 or 1953

My AMA number was 14243 . I lost it in the 1960's when I became inactive

because of military service (Vietnam) I got it back just a few years ago.

My father passed away this year, and his number was 209

I contacted AMA and asked if I could have my Dad's number as it has a lot of

sentimental value to me, and they graciously gave it to me, and I am deeply grateful .

So, my AMA number is now 209 !

Got my old one back last year, 94433, but Dee Rice has the coolest I know of,1473. That is the Ringmaster designers number. Matt Kania himself.

Had several back in the 1946 - 54 time period. No real structure to AMA in that period. About 1955 I got 31935 and that stayed until I became a CD in '63 when I got 539. Had another change back a few years ago when I became a Life Member: L-93. Now there is a slight problem there: Having 5 "39" for so many years, guess what has happened a few times when placing 93 on the wing.

I received my number in 1966, it is 32529. My dad's is 32528. He had a lower number from the 40's, but we liked the sequential numbers. I lapsed a couple of years and then asked them for the same number, no problem. Same with my Dad.
I got my eldest son Jeremiah's number as close to mine and Dad's as possible in the late 80's, 32531. He didn't renew for about fifteen years and I asked him to give it to his little brother. He had no problem with it, so in 2007 it transfered to Michael.

I got 14266 in the mid 50's. I let it lapse for a few years when I got married. When I rejoined, I asked for the old number. It was taken, but they gave me 14272 instead. Pretty close.

My original AMA number was 121810.

A couple of years ago, I asked the AMA to have it switched, and they said OK. It's now 28875.

Should the original owner of that number ever come back to flying stunt, I'll happily return the number to him in a nanosecond.

Somewhere around 1970 on the left coast, my Dad, brother, and I applied for AMA numbers and received 87272 (Dad), 87273 (me), and 87274 (Scott). A few years later, when we moved to the Dayton area, my youngest brother Bryon (around 5 at the time, I think) got 25549. Go figure

AMA 8033 I had a much lower number but lost it and then got a five digit number and when I became a CD for the third time I got this number.

It has been pointed out that the AMA had no logical method of dispensing numbers. I have to agree. Looking at the numbers given out in the 50's they are all over the place. Mine from 1958 and still current is 22547.

Early 70's my first number was 76225. Made CD and AMA made my number 7625.
A friend of mine, Bob Whitney obtained number RAD when AMA allowed anything.

Just to throw in a new wrinkle:

AMA numbers are not unique!

There exist many AMA members having a duplicate number. You can request essentially ANY combination of letters and numbers as your AMA number and it will be issued to you. As an example, Bob Whitney's AMA number is "RAD". Couple that with the occasional screw-up in record keeping and duplicates occur and exist.

This is interesting. I got my original number in 1967: 67716. I let my membership lapse in the late 70s. When I came back, I asked if I could get my old number back, but it was in use. they gave me the closest one available: 67711.

I guess dates don't have much to do with how high or low you number is.

My AMA number is a nice, simple "1385".

The assumption is that the low number was given to me based on my good looks !!

I am surprised at how many of us have had multiple AMA numbers. I got my first number (23454) in about 1957 and kept it until I went into the Navy. I let my membership lapse and when I rejoined a couple of years later, the AMA was able to get me 23464, so I only had to change one number. When I was forming a family and career I again let it lapse and was next issued 42841 (I think). Again I let it lapse and was able to get my original 23454. I plan to not let it lapse again.

In 1954 when I first joined it was 8344, my brother got 8346, even though he was older (musta been by first name, his begins with P).

I got my CD license in 1961 and got 843, been that ever since in spite of a lapse of a few years. Luckily the number hadn't been re-issued.

I got my number in (67353) 1978 at age 14. My Mom surprised me with a membership. It has lapsed a few times, but when I would re-up I would ask for the number again. Since I am going to CD two contests next year, I will look at the available numbers when the paperwork goes through. Might change, might not!

I am amazed. I thought I would be one of the few geezers who got their 4-digit license in the '50's and kept it, turning down a 3-digit when getting the CD.
