Title: AMA Membership Dues
Post by: Dan McEntee on December 05, 2022, 08:48:32 AM
This is kind of a weird one, I got my AMA notice in the mail last month and decided I had better get it in, since to get the Buder Park permit for next year I need to have up to date AMA membership. I decided to send in a check since I thought I had plenty of time, even with the way the mail is moving these days.. I sat down to fill out the form and the first thing I noticed is that there is NO MORE SENIOR CITIZEN DISCOUNT!!! It's $75 bucks across the board now. I didn't see any more options, but the form was marled that my "class" was "Open Senior."  There was no other mention for junior or senor class options and this makes me wonder if they send out the renewals specific to the members status?? Is a regular open class membership more than $75 now?

I mailed the envelope this past Friday, 12/2/2022 , just before the last pick up at the post office when they close near me. The real shock just came a few minutes ago, when I got a confirmation email from AMA that they had received it!!  I know it only had to go from St. Louis to Muncie, but it was a weekend! This almost gives me hope for the USPS!! But they still have a lot to make up for as far as I'm concerned!

Dan,
They sent something out a couple of months ago about an increase, there was an increase for the Lifetime membership as well if I recall.  $85 is the standard cost and $75 is the senior rate.

When I filled out mine back in October, it had a senior discount and I used it. Did they make a change or did you miss the fine print at the top?  I made mine for two years. H^^At my age, getting the life time membership would not be worth it.  LL~ LL~ LL~ LL~ LL~

Me too.   #^   #^   #^    LL~

At my age, I'm thinking they should offer a monthly membership ...

Are you sure it doesn't mean that if you make it to 2099 they'll have to kill you? That would not be a strong selling point.

I didn't see any options, other than a discount for two years. I went with the single year in case I don't need it for ANY reason after 2023! Like I mentioned, it had already spelled out my membership as "Open Class Senior."

Earlier this year the AMA sent out an early renewal form, announcing a dues increase after a certain date. It also offered a 3 year sign up at the then current rate, if you signed up before the cutoff date and dues increase. I'm good until 12-31-26... After that I have to agree with Dennis, a monthly renewal may be more attractive.  y1 y1 y1

  Hey Dan,

I'm sure it's because to the AMA Senior Citizens don't represent "the future of Model Aviation".
