Hi Guys,

It's friday, and we have contestants gathering out at the Reeves field. A partial list of out of towners is Don Hutchinson, Robert Redmon, and Mike Donavan.

I'll know more names when I get back from the field.

I arrived out at the field and saw Joe Hildreth from Dallas; he was flying a self designed profile airplane with a Cardinal wing and moments; it was Supertiger .46 powered. A bunch of airplanes were sitting in the shade near our east circle. They were;
1. Don Cranfil's Stinger, powered by a Thunder Tiger .36.
2.Joe Gilbert's Otto the Giro powered by an os .40 sp.
3.Joe Gilbert's Guided Whistle powered be a Super Cyclone .60.
4.Joe Gilbert's Shoestring powered by a Silver Foxx .35
5. Mike Donovan's Humongous powered by an Enya .60 model #7032

On the west circle I saw Don Hutchinson's Madman powered by an Ignition Orwick .29. I also saw Joe Gilbert flying Don's SBD 52" span Dauntless powered by an LA .46. The segmented flaps were neatly done, and the airplane flew very well.

Last night Tom Martin sold an ARF Vector .40 to Tim Tipton's buddy, Chris White. They were building it under a pavillion and were going to test fly it tonight and fly it in Intermediate on sunday.

Before I left, I saw Bob Brookins, Lew Woolard and Tony Kubes ride in in a minivan. Jim Lee and Gary Minor showed up also.
I left about 4 pm, it will start up at 9 am tomorrow.

Maybe Elwyn will have some pictures of the airplanes that he will post tonight.

It was Stunt heaven today with overcast sky, very light breeze, temps in the 70's, and heavy air. Hope it is close to this tomorrow. We are all having a great time. The GLueDobbers know how to have a contest.

Saturday, September 29

I arrived at the field about 7:30; a lot of the Gluedobbers were already there setting up for the contest. Pat Reeves took care of registration by herself. It was a lot of hard work. (thanks Pat!) More stuff showed up for the raffle. Don Hutchinson donated two sets of plans;a P-51, and a Piper Cub. (thanks, Don!) Yes, both are stunters. Daryl Mccomb and David Rice drove up from OKC. David donated an RSM kit to the raffle. (thanks, David) The raffle is wonderfully large; now if we can sell a whole lotta tickets...

Marvin Denny and I judged Old time Stunt, and Marvin's son David ran the scores for us. Lew Woolard (from Wichita, and Doug Patterson from Louisiana judged Profile stunt. We really appreciated the help!

Classic was judged by Gluedobbers Lee Thiel and Vance Munsell. There were a lot of pretty airplanes flying today. I know that Elwyn took a lot of pictures, and might post some of them tonight.

The weather was kind to us; we got all the flying in before rain shower came around 4 pm. A bunch of contestant's went to a local resturant( Ricardo's ) to eat around 6 pm.

I saw Dale Gleason's J-3 Cub fly and it won 2nd place in profile stunt. It was powered by a Thunder Tiger .36. It's a Don Hutchinson design.

Some ex-Gluedobbers showed up today; Gary Potter, and Mike Moreland showed up from OKCity. The are both old combat flyers. Tulsa Gluedobber Clyde Case showed up; he is 90 years old, and was a top gunner on a B-24 Liberator in WW2..

There is not much activity in Oklahoma City these days. I wish someone would grab the bull by the horns and get it going again over there.

Couldn't have asked for a more comfortable day, but all that dark sky wasn't very good for anything requiring a high shutter speed. Nice for shooting people pics and static shots though.

The best pull testers in Stunt - bar none!

Bob Reeves and some other Tulsa Glue Dobbers designed and built these. You simply slide and lock the P/T weight at the "oz." marking on the scale (your model wgt.), strap your handle in the leather and pull to release the reflector - simple!

Sunday, September 30th

We had a stunt heaven day for the PA portion of the TGD contest. The winds were light, (under 10 mph) and the temperature was below 80 degrees f. We had the biggest contestant turnout in years! Here in Oklahoma, people have to drive a long way to get here for our contest. Our population density is low.

We just got home and are tired but had a great time at Tulsa. You guys put on a great contest, and this year had about the best flying weather you could possibly ask for. I saw a lot of really good flights on all the circles. What a great bunch of people, both contestants, and the ones running the contest. And the food was superb. Just great to meet up with old friends and make some new ones. Did I mention that the food was really great. Thanks to everybody that worked so hard to put on the contest, and to all the flyers that came to fly. Oh, and thanks to Elwyn for the picture taking.

It was a great contest! Plenty good competition and good ole "chewing the fat". Special thanks to Joe, De Hill, Doug Ames, Elwyn Aud, and all the GlueDobbers who worked so hard preparing for the contest so everything would go smoothly, which it did. Have to single out Colleen Gilbert, who made the great CILLI AND POTATOE SOUP and sandwiches for both days, and Shelia Cranfill, Edie Oliver, Mrs. Hildreth, and other ladies who did all the preparing,serving, and clean-up.
This contest is one of the best!

Looks like OK is the place to be! I'm impressed with the spark ignition entries. Plenty of stunt activity here in the NW, but as far as I know, I'm the ONLY one flying spark ignition! What's wrong?

We used OTS plus rules. A sparker gets 30 bonus points. (At one of the first VSC's, I remember George Aldrich saying that sparkers should get 50 points) A baffle ported engine gets 20 points, a schneurle gets 10 points, and an electric gets zero bonus points.

Everything that could go wrong did for me! I think I had a bad container of fuel. Has anyone else had inconsistant runs with new gallons of Powermaster GMA 10/22 fuel? In spite of all that, I had a great time, the field is really good and I got to catch up with some folks I hadn't seen in a while. Really glad I went! Put this one on your calendar for 2013.
