Title: AMA Fun-Fly.
Post by: Allen Goff on June 16, 2024, 01:38:11 PM
June 28-29-30, Fri.,Sat and Sun.
C/L circle 4 site #1. Open flying.
Saturday I ( with HELP ) will be having a hands on flight school. Saturday is open to the public and this will be a great opportunity to showcase controline flying.

The question for years is how do we grow interest for C/L ? Here’s your opportunity, come help. It will be a fun time. #^

Blessings
Allen

Allen,
Would really be interested in any modifications that may have taken place on the L-Pad if you have the time to post.
Thank you,
John

Modifications?  That is interesting. A repave is long overdue, there are certainly some other worthy potential changes, too.

                John,
During last years NAT's Tony Stillman from AMA headquarters came to the grass circles after the Classic/n-30/OTS events and informed us that they were going to do a tear down and repave of the L-PAD so it would be completed ahead of the FAI World Championship. Now I'm in wonderment ........????

I'd be surprised.  When they re-sealed the pad 3 years ago that cost $53,000.  Joyce said it would cost millions to tear it up and rebuild and that was a pipe dream.....She said to me-"people like to talk".  I'm still waiting on the concrete centers for the grass circles.........

Doug I just sent an email to Chad to inquire about that.  There is still enough time if they get to it.  I thought it would be done when I arrived there last year.  With the Worlds crowd I'm sure there will even more need for practice circles.  (and the grass circles are a smell of a lot cooler in the evenings)

See ya soon.

Chad got right back to me.  There is a grand plan in the works to redo pretty much the whole field and the pad.  Maybe they won the lottery.  In any event NOTHING has or will happen now until the grand plan develops.  They plan to move the grass circles into the bean field behind the pad-which IS to be milled up and redone. It will be interesting to see what develops.  Maybe we will live long enough to see it.  For 2024- the statis quo.

They are supposed to do some crack repairs prior to the WC's.
Circles 2 and 3 are to be used as they are in the best condition without any "improvements". Using 2 and 3 allows for two pit areas...one for each circle...less traffic in the pits that way.

Yes, that is exactly what a fun-fly is for. It's a good opportunity to talk with other more experienced guys also, to help you out with any problems you might be having.
