Title: AMA Expo 2016 Photos
Post by: Paul Wescott on January 08, 2016, 04:28:32 PM
A few pictures of the AMA Expo 2016 starting off with Larry Renger manning the Knights of the Round Circle booth (KOTRC.org).  It's a lot of fun seeing how many people recognize the Cox PT-19 and the Jim Walker Firebaby.  Got to talk to a lot of interesting people today.  It's amazing how many used to fly but stopped.  I invited a bunch of people to come to our meeting on Tues and to the next contest.  I think I got three locals who will for sure pay us a visit, a few other fence-sitters, and a whole bunch from too far away.  But I'm pretty sure I talked two guys into looking up the CACLC in Phoenix so that counts too.

THANKS NORM!!!!!  I really REALLY appreciate when someone takes the time to express their thanks for a few photos.

That being said, there were a LOT of multi-rotors at the show.  I didn't post all my pics.  =)

The Free Flight room is gone as we know it.  Gone are the Black Sheep Squadron and the rubber band powered kid-built planes.  Now it is some group of spread-sheet whiz kids with sheets of laser-cut dollar-tree foam-board which they are gluing into big boxy gliders, makes me think: ARF.  They are selling beanies for $15.  FIFTEEN DOLLARS!  Makes me wonder how much they paid the AMA to give the volunteer Black Sheep the heave-ho so they could have the space.  The "vibe" in the room is totally different.  Hiss.  Boo.

And right next door is the flight demo room.  Full of...  You guessed it...  Buzzing, floating, multi-rotors.  SO EXCITING IT WAS, not.  Like watching paint dry.  But HEY they have a new vendor!  Have you ever been to Samy's Cameras?  I'll bet Brian has.  I go to the one in Costa Mesa.  Samy's had a great big booth of camera gear, aimed specifically at Free Flight, nope, Control Line, nope, I meant RC Planes, nope... aimed squarely at the multi-copter market segment.  I had no idea you could fill a large booth with nothing but cameras and related gear specifically meant to be carried by one of those things.  An entire booth full of cameras, which I am interested in, but in this case which I had absolutely NO INTEREST in.

Way to go AMA!!!

Thanks again for appreciating my pics Norm.  Have fun on Sunday.  Tell Brian I said hi.

Thank you for the information and updates Paul, all of your observations only further confirm my opinion of today's (so-called) AMA. As much as I hated making the decision I feel better everyday about NOT re-upping for 2016 and beyond. The "AMA", what a @#%&* joke.

The Knights of the Round Circle did the kid training thing with the ET-1. We trained over 30 kids, but even with our limited, 1/2 hour time slots, we ran out of kids before running out of time. This has never been the case in the past!  HB~>  So sad.

Has the Knights of the Round Circle confirmed the date for the Knights Joust in Aug? Do you plan on having the CL scale events in 2016?
