We had a break in the weather today so we took Colton's new Ring Rat out for a spin.  He put it in the ground second time up and put the folding undercarriage into the bottom of the wings.  Nothing structural, just some additional Ultrakote and we'll try it again.  Cute little airplane, perfect little trainer.  I flew it once and it didn't seem to have any bad intentions.

The Ring Rat is a dedicated electric design from Stevens Aeromodel in Colorado.  The kit came complete less batteries.  I hardly ever build a kit but this was a project for the grandkids, mostly Colton.  It is  well engineered, laser cut and snaps together with detailed instructions.  The balsa is particularly light, all up weight with the battery is 15.2 ounces.  It flies on 52 foot .012 cables with authority.  I recognize the animosity toward electric power and yearning for "the good old days" but this is way better than seeing him spend hours playing computer games he can't win.  Also, since it is so quiet, we were able to fly in his elementary school yard just down the street!

It won't be long before my Grandson gets to fly "his" model. (it's already in one piece, just needs painting and making up a set of lines)

Yes,

With proper power it will do most of the pattern, not precision, a lot like a middle of the road 1/2 a , I have worked some with mine , 48 foot .012  1250 lipo,  props are the biggest gain for me , alot of people have flown it , but it is more of a trainer than stunt plane , a little light on the lines for precision , just too light and mine is under powered , looking for better more powerful motor,

Last few flights made we put a micro video camera on it, nothing but fun

I really like it for training flights with spectators or retreads , one minute flight timer is a real plus , can Make flights as Long as you need with push button timer ,
