Trimming and Flying in the Freeze.....ViDEO
« on: February 09, 2015, 05:55:59 AM »
Had a hankering to get out and fly since the snow here is light and the temps were not too bad. It was mighty windy but came home with all planes intact.
Fun day trimming the Plan B Nobler with a brand new Saito .40 modded by Bob Reeves. And grooving with my Prowler.
We don't have much time left at that field so want to get out and fly now and then cold or not.
Kinda hope the snow stays light for the rest of Winter.
All secure in sector seven,
Shug

Ah, getting a jump on everybody.   A little hint on priming an engine with muffler pressure. Try putting your finger over the end of the muffler tube.  Thanks for the videos.  I should have went out yesterday it was so nice here in KC.

Out of the gate early and often. Does the muffler prime differ?

Hope to get out next week some...my job to shorten the Winter I reckon.

Hey thanks for the entertainment, Shug. You still have pretty good form considering it's the off season. We're getting a few comfortable flying days in these parts. Some of those days it even seems like I'm improving. Others... well, I've got glue for those.

Doc, do you mean cover the muffler instead of the venturi to prime? I hadn't thought of that. Most of mine have muffler pressure. I've been having trouble cranking in our moderately chilly temps. It seems like they like to be flooded and then cough it back up before I can get any action out of them. Back flipping frequently gets better results. Even resorting to Ronsonol on some engines.

Hey Rusty....thanks feller. Only my second time flying since Huntersville. It felt great and was a bunch o' fun. Working on hopefully getting down again in Oct.
May would be real fun but not sure I can swing it. Time will tell.
Hope to see you again.

I hope so too. All of life's chores will still be there for you after you cut loose and spend a weekend down here having a blast with all of us.

I have yet to see a video done by you that was anything less than entertaining from beginning to end. Thank you!

Thanks Bill. I do enjoy filming and editing and it is fun to look back and critique the flying.

As a matter of fact, I got stuck in my chair watching Sean Emery videos after the cold flying expedition. I watched Shug's Minnesota State Fair performance... again, and then the clown boot camp video featuring clips and images from the Ringling Brothers' Circus. What a career, and what friends! And I presume the beautiful Meg is your wife, Shug? You have so many movies on so many topics, I'll try to chip away at it for a good while. Quite the renaissance man.

Yessir....Meg is my wife and weve been wed 28 years now. Helps we traveled with Ringling together.
That is cool your checking those out. Videos are fun and a legacy of sorts.
This is my daughter below. She is currently on the road with the Broadway Musical Pippin.....

To me holding a finger over the open end of the muffler on the stock mufflers didn't flood like holding it over the venture.

My FP .40 on the Prowler is my only engine that I can chicken stick flip start with a flip or two. Always feels good. I do love that plane.
