AMA Cards
« on: November 07, 2016, 06:39:51 PM »
A couple of years ago I took advantage of the multiple year renewal option at the old membership fee before the increase. I got as new AMA card with a 12/31/2016 expiration date on it. I just got my 2017 membership packet in the mail and there were two, yes two, new AMA cards in it with the same expiration date. I guess that is why the membership fees went up, no control over costs of getting this stuff printed and issued! I can see getting a new card issued to me, on the chance that mine is already two years old and may need replacing, but TWO new cards in the packet? No explanation in the accompanying material on why there are two new cards. Has anyone else experienced this?

Yep.  Today.  Not sure why I need two.  But since it'll probably be my final year with them, who cares?

I'm sure one card is for your wallet and the other is intended for your collection, started oh, so many years ago. I'm sure some have a collection of AMA cards. Not me; I don't give a rip. Besides, as a USAF kid, I'm trained to pitch out useless crap. Well, except for model magazines. I'm learning, however, and it's actually pretty easy to throw MA into the blue bin...darn it!  y1 Steve

I placed my two back to back and slid them into a see through thing in my wallet so the card shows on both sides. Makes it easier to find to show the sign in folks.
I may be wrong but I doubt it.

Many RC clubs/fields have a requirement to show your AMA and club card on your person, at least the clubs I belong to. As well, two city fields at which I fly require this too (or get a ticket from the park rangers!).
Maybe that is why, Dan-O.

I am glad they did this. One fine year at VSC I discovered I had forgotten my AMA card and had to have it faxed to me. Thus I always have one in my wallet and one in my flying kit. It costs no more to print one than two  on the same page. H^^

Excellent!  A voice of reason and practicality!!

Many of the contests where I have pre-registered, I did not have to show my AMA card.  It seems they can look it up before-hand, and it is all verified when I arrive.  I didn't know this was possible.

You can verify AMA membership online. You just need the AMA number and last name. Try it! http://www.modelaircraft.org/MembershipQuery.aspx

Coincidentally, I got my (two) AMA card(s) in today's mail. A great day in history!  y1  #^  LL~  Steve

When I go to the doctor or dentist I take along a couple of old issues of model aviation to leave for people to see and read.   y1
