AMA and MAAC
« on: February 04, 2022, 11:49:26 AM »
Just read the E-Mail from the AMA.  No longer can we go to Canada and compete in their contests.  I guess that goes for fun flys too.   Also they can come across the border to compete with us or fun flies.  The AMA has two options, a short term permit and a yearly permit.   Why can't the brain dead politicians stay out of the medel airplane business.  A few brain dead politicians trying to destroy our great country and once it is done will wonder why the people that bacjed them have or going to get rid of them. Doc ,

AMA is not the problem on this . MAAC upper management dropped the ball . What used to be a seamless reciprocal agreement has devolved into both sides having to buy some type of membership to fly / compete in each other’s country .

The politics involved are deep and dark and involves a lot of anti competition MAAC executives. This began up here and where it ends up is anyone’s guess . Sometimes the only winners are the lawyers.

After I read the AMA "reminder" (this is actually old news), I thought I might write to the AMA and point out to them that none of the visiting Canadians who were coming south to fly control line would need to comply with the FAA knowledge test or register their planes. This, since the AMA claims that control line planes are not drones, not remotely controlled by RF link, and have no "ground station" and therefore exempt from those regulations. Even the FAA appears to "interpret" things this way when it reduces their workload; but perhaps refuses to enshrine this in writing--best done in an Advisory Circular--no doubt because it might codify a lesser mandate than what congress insisted on. However, for insurance and contest purposes, our Canadian friends would still need either the temporary or the annual AMA license.

On the other hand, I decided that poking at a wounded dog is generally self-destructive and can often damage a perfectly good stick....

I often where these so called educated people put what little brain they have when coming up with this stuff.  Yes they put a camera in the quad copters.  The military knows a drone is a plane that can spy on people and carry weapons/rockets.  They are also driven by a single prop or jet engine.  When are they going to start calling helicopters drones(the RC, radio controlled versions) drones.?  The quad I have I consider a toy as when it gets out of site I shut down and go look for it. PS: Did we actually vote for these people who supposed to represent us.  I was one of the few that didn't follow the pied piper like the rat did when we were told to register with the FAA. S?P

I was MAAC President (1980-84) when the reciprocal arrangement was established. John Gregg, AMA President at the time, was a true gentleman and we had a mutual desire to see modelling flourish, both sides of the border.
I cannot explain the apparent ignorance and short sighted nature of our incumbent Executive. They refuse to accept any current or historical input. I am sure they have an agenda, but it is unclear at present.
Hope better informed and calmer heads will eventually prevail.

Really good post Gord  I just don't understand that when the model airplane hobby is in decline some of our own people
just want to kill it or if certain aspects of the hobby are in some way threatened they want to tie us all together so everyone sinks with the ship
