Just received a notice in the mail from our illustrious executive director that my membership has expired. My new card has been in my bill fold and check book for 2 weeks. Do these people know what they are doing? Online contact would not come up for me and I can't hear on the phone. Any way is my card good or not? ???

When I show up at a contest, I do not have to show my AMA card. The registrar says he/she has confirmed my AMA status when I pre-registered. So there is a means to confirm AMA membership on line. I don't know how this is done, since I have not acted as CD at any contest for several years. Perhaps an active CD will respond here to tell us how it is done.
I renewed my AMA membership on-line back in mid-November. I have not yet received my 2020 AMA card. In previous years, I renewed by mail using the material sent to me by AMA. I now wonder if on-line renewals are getting to the proper channels.
I hope I don't have to go through the pain of calling AMA to find out what happened to my 2020 card.

I got the same notice but it says ‘membership valid til 1/31/20’ so I wouldn’t worry about it. Somebody got ahead of themselves. My notice didn’t mention my CD status either. I’ll renew on line soon and should be able to straighten it then.

After reading this, I realized that I don't have my new card. Check at AMA site with member number and last name to verify.

I looked out of curiosity. Mine expires 4/30/2020.
I'm still getting the magazine. I don't remember who was getting it before. I offered it to any Forum member. No takers unless few seen the Thread?
Anyone want my AMA magazine? Send a PM.

MAAC has a similar feature on their web site.
FAI even has this now, they no longer ask for your card at world champs, they already know if you are paid up.

Wow. I thought I was, maybe, the only one. I paid for a two-year renewal, but still got a dues notice and no card.
I guess I'll just carry a copy of Model Aviation as a proof of membership.

Not sure about CD's, but your club contact person* can access the database to determine if a person, either by AMA number or state/city is currently registered. This was upgraded about 2 years ago and is much more convenient. As long as someone has web access at your event they should be able to check your status. Not sure if/who the AMA subs out the subscription services to. For example, they do not do the web design and programming according to my discussions with them. Or at least not the access software. So they make a call to the contractor to straighten some things out.
All that said, when we hold a contest, I already know from the AMA which club members are paid up AMA members. I expect the out-of-towners to show a card, or else I have to go digging around on the web. That is much slower than just flashing a card, but for a few special cases it's no big deal.

*--To minimize useless thrashing about, the AMA limits a club to a single point of contact. When your club turns in your charter paperwork this person must be listed.

Doc,
I just checked your membership. , I would guess a glitch in the system.. As a C/D and Club officer, I use the AMA verification quite often

Thanks Will, H^^
Almost forgot, MERRY CHRISTMAS. D>K

When you renew online, they tell you quite clearly that your receipt is your temporary ama card until your actual card arrives.
Print it out and bring it with you to any looming contest or field to fly until the card arrives and you are good to go.
This was always a potential problem for me going to the KOI in January, so I got used to printing and carrying the emailed receipt over many years.
Hope that helps.

I hope no one checks mine. I would hate to be officially labeled an "Adult", even worse a "Senior". I thought we did this to avoid becoming both!
Merry Christmas - Ken

Seems I bit for two most recently...
My card says good until December 31, 2022.
If THAT causes a problem, then we ARE in trouble...

Apparently AMA ws going to deliver the new membership cards by drone this year.
Gee, what could go wrong with that? ..... ;D
-
I have received 4 cards for the year 2020 since my renewal.

I renewed on line at the beginning of the month, and got my new cards (two of them like they have been doing for the last couple of years,) on Christmas Eve, Today I got a reminder/expiration notice in the mail today. This is the kind of stuff that aggravates me, the money that is wasted on printing and postage for such un-necessary communications. It has to add up to a significant amount these days. With computer technology at it's current capabilities, they should be able to track membership daily to see where renewals are and eliminate any reminder/expiration notices that don't need to be printed and sent. I'm sure this is probably farmed out to some third party, but it should still be more complete and up to date that what it is. The last time I renewed for more than two years was when they were having the last dues increase, and I got new cards with an appropriate expiration date two years don the line. I still got renewal notices in the mail the next year, and then two new AMA cards that I did not need! I just go year to year from this point on.
Type at you later,
