I have a big quantity of aluminum framing for pictures and art from a frame shop. I have straight pieces as well as right angle pieces. I am considering scraping it for cash. I am wondering if anybody has used this stuff for modeling purposes? I thought it could be useful for a wing or fuselage jig. Any suggestions on how I could use it in modeling?

What sizes do you have?

Charles,
I would hang on to a couple feet of the right angle aluminum. I t can be used to mount an electric motor to a profile or full body plane.

Fixturing sound like a good use. Due to the low grade alloy in such applications, I wouldn't use it in the actual product.

I would use it to frame a picture of photogenic persons such as the Jive Combat Team.

You can make some good sanding tools with different types of alloy extrusions, the 90degree ones are good for many sanding jobs, just glue the sanding paper on.

Regarding sizes its varies from lengths as short as 4" to 44". I have all the remaining stock from a frame shop that went out of business. Thank you for all your comments.

Charles, could you post a picture showing the cross section(s) and maybe lay a ruler beside to relate approximate size? Seems you may have a ready market here!
