« on: February 28, 2006, 09:33:07 AM »
Is anyone out there familiar with this product??

Eastwood Diamond Clear Gloss for Bare Metal Quart
Protect metal parts with a crystal clear, tough, flexible coating that keeps brass, aluminum, steel, die-cast, even cast iron looking great. This self- leveling formulation, resists chips, cracks, fading and yellowing. May slightly dull reflectivity. Resists fuels and temps up to 300 degrees. Ideal in ...
$14.99
Item No. 10357 ZP

I emailed them here's the question and response:

Marvin Knowlden

Hi,  I am trying to locate a non-catalyzed non yellowing clear coat.  I
am aware that the old lacquers are out of fashion (darn) but could you
suggest an alternative that is solvent and fuel resistant?  I could use
a small quantity at first to see if it will work in my application,
quart perhaps?

Thanks

Marv

Marv,
We sell a product called Diamond Clear for Bare Metal... It
comes in aerosol: #10200z GLOSS & #10300z SATIN... as well as Qts:
#10357zp GLOSS & #10345zp SATIN
    I hope this helps...

Comments are welcome.  If it is good stuff, sure would beat Butyrate clear and the catalyzed clears for what we use it for.

Marv,

You might ask Howard Rush about this. I think he's tried several non-catalyzed clearcoats, with ah, varying results. His current orange impact is done with some non-catalyzed, urethane DuPont product that he says is not very fuel proof. which is why he's always rushing to get it wiped off immediately after a flight.

I shot a profile with Deft urethane clear gloss from a rattle can (over dope color). Worked fine for me.

Marv,

When it's done, I'll send up pictures. Probably a couple of weeks after VSC. If you're nice to me, I might see my way clear to sending you the plans.   8)

Quick, where do I grovel?  I want to show that I am
not too greedy, so save the postage and omit the skirts  ;D

I will start saving pop bottles right away so I can buy some of that
high temp paint for it, wouldn't want to start a fire on take-off

Actually, as I understand it Howard's current Impact has no clear at all on it.

Which might explain why those of us allowed to launch it must have our hands inspected for cleanliness...
