Allen Brickhause Iced Out
« on: February 13, 2008, 10:51:18 AM »
Allen lives in an area that has been heavily damaged by an Ice Storm. They have had to move to an area where there is power. The power will probably be restored by this weekend. Please hold your communications until you learn that power has been restored. Allen asked me to post this this morning 02/13/08

I'm glad he has a place to go to that has power!  We have to tough it out for up to a week at a time without power or a generator............ if we're lucky we can get to work during the day and stay warm! LOL!!

Hang in there Allen.

Hey Bill,
Solve your power problem the way I did.
Buy a generator.
I did three years ago and have not had a power outtage of long enough duration to require using it.

Sure glad we had a generator when the ice storm hit here in December. We were among the lucky ones only without power for 3 days. With temps in the 20's and everyone else we knew with the same problem we had relatives staying with us because we had heat. If I never use that generator again I feel it's already paid for itself.

Funny part is the reason we had it was they were predicting a bad ice storm last winter and we felt we should beat the rush and go ahead and buy one.. End result was the ice storm didn't happen but we held on to the generator.

Allen, YOU'RE SAVED!!! This is the "Big Mans" way of saying you shouldn't use $kote on an Olympus model as was found out in the Classic section here! No power-no sealing iron-HA! Now get out some candles, the dope and your Polyspan Allen!

Seriously though, I hope all are safe and OK. y1

My dear friend Roger........ if I had the money to buy a generator, I wouldn't have been selling off stuff! ;D

The worst we have had lately was in Jan. 2000.  Ended up with 12" of ice on the roads!  We lost power for exactly 7 days and 8 minutes.  From 10:54pm on a Thursday until 11:04pm the next Thursday.  Never got to 30* until the following Saturday, IIRC.

I have a wood stove, a BBQ grill, and lanterns/candles, plus a bunch of old mountain comforters and wool blankets for the bed........  I don't feel to bad in bed until it gets below about 45*, then I will put a wool blanket on the bed!

really...........

No power and ice is way less than no fun! we were out of power last January for 11 days here in Neosho MO. You just keep thinkin: it'll be on any minute. We too got by for a while until we no longer had water. Then I was Done!

Update: Allen's power is back on but the water is out. To much flow on the system due to the "Leter drip maw so the pipes won't freeze" So I expect that Allen will be back at home perhaps today.

Generators: After having three hurricanes hit us in 11 months our generator has been very useful. We lost power in storm one and it was out for two weeks. Then along comes storm number 2 at three weeks after the power came back on. This was another two week outage. The next storm was ten months later. The power was out again about 10 days. On the east coast of Florida a generator is a good investment. OK thats my story. I enjoy the stories of power outages due to other causes. Ice and snow storms sound a lot worse than Hurricanes to me. I grew up in the north and being cold isn't something I want to go through any more. Seems like no matter where you are if the power is off, "your a camper"

Doesn't matter where we live there is something to get us everywhere.

Since the tornado in 98 here the city decided to in stall all utility lines under ground. Because you couldn't believe the mess left from the storm because of all the lines and poles down. Couldn't get emergency vehicle around cause of it. So it brought a false sense of security and a buddy of mine sold his generator really cheap. Well the power station is still above ground and another twister went close to town 2 years ago, I think you can see where this is going. HB~> HB~>

Glad to hear the Allen and Kathy are back home.  Now Chuck, my daughter never mentioned anything about tornados in Stuart.  She does keep us informed about the hurricanes tho.  DOC Holliday
