I just checked Horizons site and under news they show a Saito FA 40CL Coming Mid May.

Yep it was announced in another thread a couple weeks ago. Sure tickles me, the 40a will handle anything an LA 46 would normaly go on and until the rule changes allow 15 thousands lines. I have three converted RC versions, two with UHP manafolds and one with a new insert for the RC carb I made myself.

Great little engine..

I got one from Bob and put on an ARF Nobler to try out. VERY IMPRESSIVE!!! It's now my best-flying plane!

How in the world did you balance the thing??? Tail-weight box? The Saito is at least 5 oz heavier than a Fox, and 4 oz. heavier than a B.40 or OS.40LA.

(Too many irons; not enough fire)

Not sure if Scott did anything... An interesting phenomenon about 4 strokes that was discussed to death several years ago is the CG can be farther forward and the airplane will still turn. Not sure anyone came up with a scientific explanation but allot of theories were floating around. My Twistmaster with a Saito 40 balances on the wing leading edge and will still turn with the best of the Twisters ever built.

Saito 40A rocks. I did a report on one in this forum some time ago. The weight difference is irrelevant. What does matter is that you stick one of these things in a well built Nobler and serious business is going to get takin care of.  I consider them a replacement for my ST 46's.

They  are due in mid to late May. I have all of the other 4 cycles here in stock, and the 40 Saito's  will be in stock when the importer gets them in.
By the way if your counting that will make   5  NEW  Control line 4 Stroke engines in the past few months made for C\L  flyers

The picture on the front of the ARF Nobler box shows one equipped with a LA 40 with stock muffler. The Saito 40 weighs about the same. The run is unbelievable. You would just have to try it to see....... H^^

I certainly wasn't quibbling about the quality of the FA40a or its running characteristics - I have 3 of 'em! But you may have just explained what was wrong with my #2 Cardinal. I shortened the nose of the ARC to accomodate the added weight (as compared to a B.40) and it was practically a Free-Flight plane. I added a 2 oz. Higley Hub, and the improvement was significant. Now I think I should try another, leaving the nose stock length, but add a tail-weight box "just in case". I must have missed the discussion about "nose-heavy but still turns"; thanks for the info.
