All season flite log...

Well the thread about the All season patch from the AMA got me inspired to give it a try.

Yesterday we had very high winds. Took down some of our fence yesterday. Today it warmed up to 44 and sun. Tomorrow is the last day of January and rain is in the forcast. So it was now or we miss January.

Ryan met me at the park this afternoon and we both got a flight in with the old Flite Streak.
1 down 11 to go. ( I hope the number with be much higher as the weather improves.)

I figure I can validate Ryan, but not sure if he can validate me? I did call Harlyman, he got to hear the K&B in the background.

I could hear that K&B greenhead 35 barking away in the background, but could not smell the Castor.  Talk about teasing.   
Funny, when talking to Ryan, I'd say, " I can hear him looping", he says "yup".
It's 4 degrees here in Milwaukee and I have these hecklers down south taunting me.
No respect.

  Congratulations!!! But remember now, real men put up two flights each month! . That is one of the challenges, keeping track of the weather throughout the month and taking advantage of breaks in the weather, only flying in the nasty stuff if you absolutely have to. Like I said, it's a simple goal, but not necessary easy to achieve. It's also good to have beater model just for this purpose. I have a Flight Streak ARF with a LA.25.

When my son was flying with me many years ago as a teenager, there were times we had snow on the ground.  That is how I broke in a Fox Stunt 35.  In fact, I wish I would have had someone with a video recorder, the plane diappeared in a snow bank and the old Fox didn't miss a beat and was still running when it came out.  John Bender got me out every month a couple of years ago, but, I guess with age I don't try as hard now.  Later,  DOC Holliday

Way to go, Paul!  Way to go, Ryan!!!

Many, many fliers are not affiliated with a club.  I don't think AMA has ever been rigid or inflexible about "proof".  The All Seasons patch has always been an "honor" thing.  At the end of this year, send AMA a statement saying you and Ryan flew one flight in each month and a check for the patches.  Include your AMA numbers.

I try to enter the flight in my pocket calendar along with who was along, how many flights I got in and the weather.  It isn't as proof but just a fun record.

We have 29 days left to get in a February flight!!!!

Paul & Ryan

We got a brief window in the St. Louis weather and decided to try it.  It was 39 degrees but the winds were fairly light around noon at Buder Park.  We had 6-10 inches of snow Thursday.  The streets and pad were clear but there was still lots of thawing snow on the grass and mud.  I got in my February All Seasons flight and Steve Smith got his in, too.  My engine was not cooperating but Steve got in a couple of additional flights until the wind came up.  He really fought to stay in his overhead eights and clover.  The wind chill was getting worse so we wrapped them up.  It was drizzling rain by the time I got home.  We were lucky.

Monday morning  had a perfect 39 degrees at DELTA  for or February flights Richard, Jerry .Geoffrey and  Leo Had a Great Time Hope for more time But the Rain started up at Noon . Was great  to get out of the shop and visit .We  heard a rumor  one of our GROUP stayed home to PLAY WTH A TRAIN,    Hope when the sun comes out he will wake up and smell the Castor again

One thing we have really learned is that we try to never pass a chance even if it is pretty marginal.  It will probably get worse.  This is only the 5th of February.  Stay ready and watch for opportunities.  You still have 24 days left.  If John Paris and his kids can get in a flight where they live up north, we certainly can.

Sunday the weather here was pretty nice, light breezes, and overcast... light jacket weather.  I loaded up the car and we drove out to the field only to find the gate combination changed.  Monday we went and paid our club dues and got the new combo.  It seemed a little more breezy and not quite as warm, but 40* and sunny.  The field is out in the open, which usually results in much stronger winds then in town.  Between the winds, the temp, and the sun falling low in the sky, it was a bit much.  I got in one flight, complete pattern.  I asked dad if he wanted to fly, but he agreed it was too windy, too cold.  A coat and lighter winds would have made it workable.  The new camera has a few second delay between hitting the button and the picture it actually snaps, so all ya get is a pic of me standing in the middle of the circle with the sun in my eyes and the plane out of frame.
