All good things come to an end...
« on: February 07, 2015, 09:00:29 AM »
Hi to all my friends here.

I have come to a difficult but unavoidable decision. I have decided that 2015 will mark the last year of custom wing building for me. I have been producing foam cores, and covered foam wings and tail assemblies since 1969. And, in the past 20 or so years I've also made custom built-up wings in my Lost-Foam system. I've certainly enjoyed doing this for so long, and I want to thank those of you who have purchased wings from me over the years for your patronage.

I'll continue with my custom wing business until January 1, 2016. At that point I'm retiring to do other things within this hobby and in other areas of interest.

Many of you also know that I'm the Editor of the PAMPA newsletter (magazine...), Stunt News. I am also looking to hand that post off to someone who feels that they can do the job for PAMPA. I'll continue in that post until a new editor comes forward or can be found.

I cannot convey in words just how difficult it has been to come to these decisions. I have enjoyed my hobby life, and more to the point, my life in CL Stunt. I'll continue to build and fly and also to support this sport in any way that I can in "retirement."

Yours for better modeling - Bob Hunt

Hi Bob,

I know that you will continue "giving" to others because that is who you are.  It has come the time to have some "Bob" time.  I know your time will be just as busy as it is now, you are just a human dynamo!  I am sure everyone thanks you for what you have done during your time in "stunt" and that will not end.  Sounds like you will still be cutting foam wings and Lost Foam Fixtures.  I am sure that will keep you busy enough.  You being busy, is just being Bob Hunt!  I thank you for being my friend over these years.  Do what you need to do for you, now.  It has become that time.

Thanks, and keep on keepin' on!

Bob, I hope it works out well for you.  Maybe you can move in with Robbie for a year or two and come compete with us!

Great to know, my friend!  It's about time you freed yourself up fpr, as Bill said, "Bob time."  Only trouble is,nas soon as you do that "retirement" thing, you lose every bit of personal time you ever dreamed of!  Well, at least a lot of it.  Am I right, retirees?
Be blessed, my friend, be very blessed.

Bob,
It is with great regret that I say I undertand completely.  You have made tremendous contributions to CL Stunt as well as other parts of this Sport of building and flying model airplanes.

Your Craftsmanship in providing structures, products, and information for all comers will be sorely missed.
However, I definitely understand the need to move on to other things in life besides working for others.
I wish you the very best in whatever you choose to do and know that your friendship for us fellow modelers will continue.

I do hope your interest in Stunt Competition at the top levels will continue and that you may choose to pursue another National Championship and another World Championship.  The USA could not hope for better representation than you.

You have my, and I'm sure, many others undying gratitude for your help and friendship of the past and future and hope for great things for you.

Above all be happy with life my friend.

I think the folks who actually go to the Nats should throw you a retirement party.  With an appropriate gift -- like a gold watch, or a desk set.

Bobby, how can we really thank you for what you have done to promote stunt.  I will not forget the first time I met you in Lake Charles when my team mate and I were making a new set of lines for F2C.   Sure glad when we helped get them out lawed.   I had not taken up stunt at that time in life and considered it beyond my capabilities to fly the pattern.   You gentlemen in stunt were my heroes.  Now you can go enjoy more after the first of January 2016.

Bob, I remember the first time we met at the '73 NATS.  My first NATS and your first NATS flying PA.  We made a pact that we would both qualify...and we did.  Quite the head trip.  You placed 9th and I placed 18th, but making it to the finals was a treat for both of us.

I had to retire from flying at the end of '75 due to a new job and a move.  I have made feeble attempts in the last few years to pick up a handle again and it is difficult.  I envy you in that you stayed with it all these years, not only manufacturing great stuff for the hobby, but staying on the end of the lines and competing at the highest levels.

I wish you the very best in the years to come.  I enjoy your emails and I will give you a call sometime soon.

Nothing but the best wishes for you Bob.  You are a true giver.  Look at all the schooling you've done just in the past decade or so!  Modeling is forever better because of your involvement and unselfish attitude in sharing and giving.

I'm a late comer to the party Bob, but congratulations on taking the jump. Now if you could only remember the retirees creed.
WORK is a four letter word with no redeeming social value. Sounds good but like most of us you'll keep busy.
Have always enjoyed a trip to the foam factory. Thank you for everything.

Jeez Bob, that's sad to hear but at the same time it's good to hear you'll be doing something for yourself again.

I might have to get in before closing and grab a set of cores for a crossfire off you!

Hey Bob,   congratulations on your graduation . I retired from construction in 2006  & went directly to work as a part time Electrical Inspector, last August I retired from that & am totally retired, it took me well over a year to make the decision. It left an empty feeling at first but this is better, more time on my motorcycle, etc  and I'm sure its best for you too. See ya in Muncie buddy.

Bob,
As I have told you, you have been putting in too many hours for a long time. Your contributions to stunt and the stunt community exceed just about everyone. Thanks.

You deserve a slower pace and we know that you will still be making contributions, and hopefully competing more.

I've always appreciated the wonderful things you and your dad did for the modeling community. I have learned a lot from you over the last 30 years that have and will make me a much better builder. I treasure you pattern flying tips too, but do to my own lack of ability did not translate as well as your building methods did. I hope you continue on in competition-you are one great competitor!

I found retirement to feel very natural.  I doubt if you would, and it sounds like your retirement will be even busier than your present gigs.

Bob. you have not only informed, but helped me and I am sure countless others all over the globe.  It is appreciated.  I should warn you though there is one (possibly more) drawback to retirement.  You don't get holidays.

Thanks,  Charlie

Well lessee, Bob is off on some SERIOUS twin development, and he is freeing up some more play time -  Uh oh.....!

And Bob, if I get in a bind and need a wing in a hurry I can always trek to my dad's house and steal his last unused CSC wing that you made him back about 1972...

After chatting with Bob a couple of weeks ago, I believe he wants to free up some time to build some toys that use "6 strings" instead of just  the 2.   H^^

Well, I am pretty sure you will be busy this coming year! And...a much deserved kudo for all you have contributed and provided over the years. Kind of a land mark thing in my opinion considering the number of years you have continuously given so much in so many areas of our favorite past time

Just  bit opf precautionary advice, Bob - be careful with that "building things with 6 strings" gig, it just might try to displace the stunt ships as first love.  Don't ask me why I say this!
