Alcohol proof glue
« on: June 09, 2006, 05:43:10 AM »
I am looking for some glue that is totally impervious to alcohol and nitro fuels.  I know that epoxy is no good for immersion in glow fuel, but there must be some type of adhesive that is and can also be easily sourced.

Does anyone know of one?

Thanks,

Charlie

"GOOP All-purpose Contact Adhesive And Sealant".  I use it to build fuel tanks from plastic film cannisters.  I suspect "ShoeGoo" is the same stuff but can't be sure.

Thanks for the reply Ray.  I have never heard of `Goop' down here, but will see if I can locate some.  Does it set up hard, or is it flexible when cured?  Do you know of any other brands?

Thanks,

it sets up reasonably flexible, not brittle at all but not "soft" either.  I don't know of other brands...I've seen several variations for specialty uses (a la "Shoe Goo") and suspect they're all the same product, but not sure.  It's about the consistency of thick honey but can be thinned with, I think, acetone?  Larry Renger may know for sure.  I don't thin it.  It is extremely tenacious and inert stuff.

I glued two popcicle sticks together with polyurathane glue (Gorilla) and soaked in a 20% ethanol, 80% nitro mix over night.  Did not get gummy and would not slide or break at the glue line.
