Al's Models 4 download from link
« on: June 14, 2018, 01:52:48 PM »
As I said in a previous post, I'm 82 and have mostly given up active modeling.  For a number of years now I have sold  copies of my Al's Models 4 DVD.  I believe this DVD is the largest collection of modeling information available from any single source.  There are about 190,000 words, 1640 pages and photos and about 25 minutes of video. I've sold over a hundred of these DVDs but, somehow, the availability of this information never seems to have gotten out to hundreds of people who would find this a virtual treasure trove of modeling experience.

As it stands now, if I were to die this virtual encyclopedia of modeling technology would likely wind up in the trash, put there by persons who wouldn't understand its value as a resource of modeling technology and experience.

I'm not particularly interested in selling more DVDs but they may still be available for sale if the downloaded  4.38 Gb is eating up too much of your computer memory. The download has exactly the same content as a sale DVD. In an effort to make this information available to any and all who might be interested, I've had a friend help me make full and exact copies of my DVD freely available on the internet, YouTube in fact. I'm adding a link to this post which will make available the entire contents of the DVD. All anyone has to do to download the entire contents of Al's Models  would  be to simply click on this link.

There is a huge volume of information contained in each of the books.  When downloading individual books you will find that it will take about 5 minutes for a complete download even though some pages will be instantly available.  The five videos are instantly available.

The next step will be to send a couple of DVDs to AMA and PAMPA (done) and ask them to consider using their resources to make the Al's Models 4 links available to their membership. I also sent a link to John Brodak.  About half of Book 1 was taken from an article I wrote for his Control Line World magazine published in the OCT 2007 and Jan 2008 issues.  Maybe John would slip a link into each of his engines and kits.  It could make for more competent builders and better served customers.  Perhaps some of his customers would even value the link as entertainment.

It would be nice if I could reach into hobby dealers, distributors and individual hobby shops.  I can use ideas.  Or maybe I'm reaching beyond the value of the DVD link.

While my computer guy was helping with my Al's Models 4 DVD, he noticed a number other Al Rabe videos scattered on YouTube not used my DVD. He put them in order and found 15 two hour videos (30 hours) on building the BBFB Bearcat., 10 hours of building a Profile Bearcat, 6 hours Designing the Critical Mass and  a 35 minute Critical Mass flights.

The easiest way to access these videos is to begin with the Al's Models 4 YouTube link.  Log on to any of the 5 video sequences which are part of Al's YouTube link. Notice that above each of these DVD video posts there is a search block for YouTube videos.  Search "Al Rabe Videos - BBQB"".  Paul Taylor had originally put all of these on YouTube Years ago.  Now I'm not sure whether it was Paul Taylor or my computer guy Gregg who lined them up.  In any case, this forty six hours and thirty five minutes is readily available for more free stunt model video and an easy way to find them all.

In just this past couple of days there has been more than 500 views.  Most, if not all of these views likely resulted in Al's Models 4 downloads.  If the viewers liked the DVD and the free access, perhaps they could also pass the word to friends, club meetings, forums and most important, publicizing their availability at contest.  In short, if you liked the DVD, consider helping others enjoy easy access to the material.

Al, thanks for doing this, it's a great gesture to the control line stunt community worldwide, and to aeromodelling in general.

I'll be sure to watch all of it!

Thanks for providing the link. Purchasing your DVD's was always on the to-do list but now I can dial it up every time I'm at the computer. Read most of book 1 with apparently many hundreds of pages to go. I've been a groupie since your American Aircraft Modeler days. It resulted in a Sig Akrobat with removable wing, Rabe rudder, fully sheeted wing, molded turtledecks, a ST 46 and Texize K2r cleanups.

What I found the most interesting so far was your use of tail volume coefficients in designing the planform for your C/L semiscale stunters. It's one of the tools that can be utilized in modifying free flight rubber scale models. William McCoombs, a senior engineering specialist at the Vought Corp. described tail volume coefficients to the free flight community in his book, 'Making Scale Model Airplanes Fly' in 1981. The book is geared to rubber power scale flying but has a lot of full scale theory. It has been found that a TV coefficient of .6 or better works well for free flight scale. I redrew my Hellcat for a coefficient of .65. It's a very stable flyer.

     Thanks again for sharing

Guys,

There have been about 670 views so far.  I presume that most of the views also downloaded the free link to Al's Models 4. It would seem that a free post of 190,000 words, 1640 words and photos and a half hour of video would be a welcome addition for modelers of all kinds, and in particular, stunt builders and flyers. So far, there have been only 5 replies. With so few replies, this post wound up on page 2 and replies and views are drying up.

If we think that this huge volume of information is worth saving, we need more replies and views.

It isn't necessary or desirable that new replies be personally complimentary. Very little of this download was written  for the DVD. It was mostly complied and edited from numerous magazine articles and thousands of posts to this and other forums.

For example, which subject matter did you like best?  Which subjects did you find most informative?  The DVD chapter 1 began with a two volume article posted in Control Line World about 10 years ago presenting technology developed through thousands of practice flights of Mustang and Sea Fury stunt ships. The other half of Book 1 was an article on the construction of a Mustang stunt ship of 53,662 words and 539 photos.  Book 2 had, in addition to other material, an article on building the Mustunt IV which ran 32,345 words and 338 photos.  My point being, that less knowledgeable modelers would have much to gain from downloading this DVD.

It would be helpful if you would express your thoughts, arguments, opinions and preferences for material contained in the DVD download and replies here on Stuka Stunt. There could be endless posts and replies about ideas and techniques developed as our airplanes have improved over the years. Topics covered by the DVD include but aren't limited to construction techniques, molding, materials, painting, jigs, laser cutting, aerodynamics, trimming, engines, propellers, controls, tanks, mufflers, Rabe rudder, cockpits, appliques, stencils, inking, plans, design, reverse prop rotation, incidence, spinners, shock gears, alignment, and many other topics.

Once again, here is the free download and all that is required to have the DVD content on your computer is just chick on this link.

I was watching some of my extra videos which are on YouTube but not included in the Al's Models DVD.  There are forty eight hours of free model airplane videos, mostly building.  I just copied this next paragraph from my major post above.  I'm putting it here again because, if you like videos and look up videos by me, you will find them all over the YouTube.  There is a way top view all of them in order which makes them much more enjoyable.  Follow the instructions below.  Find the search block above any of my five Al's Models videos.  Again, Al's Models or Al Rabe will get you single videos from all over YouTube.  In the search engine, enter   Al Rabe videos - BBQB .  Caps don't seem to matter as long as   al rabe videos - bbqb   are used.   There is a lot of good viewing there.  Check it out.  I'm not much with computers but also found out yesterday that you can go to youtube directly and get the videos in order by entering the  Al Rabe videos - BBQB  into  a blank search block.  The first video photo shows  a half black photo with the numerals 24.  Clicking that one opens the 24 videos in order.

Here is the copy from My DVD above.  "The easiest way to access these videos is to begin with the Al's Models 4 YouTube link.  Log on to any of the 5 video sequences which are part of Al's YouTube link. Notice that above each of these DVD video posts there is a search block for YouTube videos.  Search   Al Rabe Videos - BBQB    Paul Taylor had originally put all of these on YouTube Years ago.  Now I'm not sure whether it was Paul Taylor or my computer guy, Gregg, who lined them up.  In any case, this forty eight hours block of videos is readily available for more free stunt model video and an easy way to find them all."

Watching the profile Bearcat video #4, when you were trimming the cutout holes with the moto tool using the sanding drum, I could smell the burning balsa.
