"What are the odds?" I sit down to ask a question about a McCoy .35 Red Head and what "pops up?" Wow! A new set of instruction sheets for my McCoy collection.
My question was ...is...what are the max RPM,s can I run my "NIB" McCoy .35?
I've got a "project" in the works that falls into the category of duplicating a..."go fast with what you have in your possession at the time." (1962)
The specification sheet recommends a 7X10 prop for speed events..."7X10! Really?"
I'm looking at my stock of 8 1/2X9 pylon props and some 10/22 fuel. (with some extra castor of course)

Hi Norm,

Sounds like the 8 1/2 X 9 props would probably be good for the .35.  Of course longevity will depend on just how good the parts were in the engine.  QC was all over the place after Dick was out of McCoy and one lean run can ruin a Red Head while others would live on "bad" fuel and over revving....... flip a coin.  Either way, use some of Randy's Aero 1 oil in your fuel.

Thanks guys, this project won't be for competitive reasons, but for nostalgic purposes, however I don't want to destroy a new engine. I do!..."Want it to go." The last time I had a "go at this," I was running "Glo-39" and a 9X4 prop. I'll try and post some pictures when it is (close) complete.

Using an old rule of thumb, you can double the diameter, and add the pitch, to campare props. So if you cut down your 8.5x9 to 7.75, you would be just a little more load than the 7x10. McCoy's are luggers, so the 8.5x9 might work just like it is. I run 10x6's on mine in stunt, and that would be the same load as your 8.5x9.
