Airstormer’s Contest at Indiantown!
« on: March 05, 2016, 06:40:33 PM »
Well it happened today and it’s over, but it's not too late because it happens again tomorrow. So if you would like to attend a great contest event, YOU STILL CAN!!!!

Rich Peabody’s Indiantown Contest, held at the Airstormer’s flying field was a fantastic success!! FOR THE THIRD YEAR!!

My gosh how this contest has increased in participation!

This is the first year the contest was attended by Buzz and John Brodak.
Fingers crossed for next year? We’ll see.

Not just a Contest, but also a gathering of enthusiastic control line pilots!

Sunday is expected to be another sunny Florida day, so come on down. Events include Profile Scale and PA by skill class.

At this Contest event, everyone is a winner!

Photos are in the order they were taken.

Mark, there's always next year. You can do it!!

John, possibly you can team up with someone for the drive next year!

Great bunch of guys, really nice circles and the event is growing every year.

Here's the model that I found to be the most unusual and most interesting.

It's a scale model scratch built by Bob Whitney, Bob cast the CF props and all! Powered by a couple of diesel engines.

Bob couldn't fly it because it's not designed to fly off grass but it was great to see it on display.

Really nice model Bob.   H^^

I'd like to know a bit more about it?

Charles

That is the Pond Racer that Bob had built a version of to compete in the 1/2A Multi Engined Profile Scale meet at Tucson. Good flyer.
The real airplane was a concept to replace Warbirds in air racing prior to the Sport Class. It had two Nissan racing car engines and was able to qualify at over 400 mph its first year out with an output of only about 500 hp per engine. It had a lot of complex systems and ultimately was destroyed in a fatal crash about 4 years after its inception. Bob Pond of Palm Springs Air Museum fame was the originator of the project, Burt Rutan designed it and it was operated by personnel in Southern California attached to the Planes of Fame Museum. Pilot Rick Brickert (Dago Red and Dreadnought pilot) was to experience many engine failures during the airplane's history including several fires. It originally ran on alcohol, but was converted to gas later, an inflight fire engulfed the cockpit before Rick could land or escape on its final flight during a qualifying attempt at the Reno National Air Races @1993.

Who was flying the P-40? If you have any of the results of the scale competition that would be good to see
