aircraft grade plywood (5) ply
« on: September 28, 2017, 08:49:52 AM »

I am looking for some aircraft grade plywood in 3/32, 1/8, and 1/4 thicknesses. Where are you getting yours, and is it a good grade?  Thanks..

The last time I had to source some it came from Aircraft Spruce. Mahogany ply for a Bellanca Viking wing repair.

You can get 4"x36" sheets of 5 ply birch from Tom Morris in all the sizes you listed, just go to the Stunt Hangar Hobby link at the top of the page.  Shipping is pretty reasonable because of the width.  If you need larger pieces I agree Aircraft Spruce has good quality plywood, prepare yourself for a bit of shock at shipping cost if you order full sheets.

My local stuff did not look good to me ( handled too may times and beat up a bit) so Stunt hanger Hobby and a few sheets of Tom Morris ply filled my bin of bulk wood ...a tad cheaper and much better condition than my local places

His price on 1/64th was half my local price.... I never did shop the other usual suspect sources --- and I do not stock any Lite Ply....just what comes in the kits...that I tend to substitute real ply wood for in a thinner plank

I've been getting good ply from Hobby Lobby....I look it over pretty closely first though.
Once in a while I get light ply too but always hold it up to a light to look for voids...you can feel them too if you squeeze it.

Bill....watch that prop governor on the Viking....
One night I was taking my girlfriend to Boom Trenchard's Flarepath Restaurant at San Diego.
I was on downwind with it all hanging down and the stall warning screaming at me when I brought up the throttle and the prop went flat on me.
So there I was getting ready to hit a manhole cover in downtown San Diego and then i manually increased the pitch and we didn't die.
Scared the crap out of me...but I love the Viking....they fly remarkably great!!

Did that place use to be called the Casa Muchada?

Could be....the last time I was there in 76' it was still BTFR. It could have changed names later.
The whole east end of the field has been redeveloped since then though.
