Air Show Cool enjoy
« on: October 14, 2011, 12:47:03 AM »
Ring some loud bells, Jimmy and Chuck??

Here is a link to a 1945 airshow at Freeman Army Airfield in Indiana, featuring captured German WWII aircraft... You'll see briefly a couple of "terror weapons," the V-1 and V-2 rockets that terrorized Londoners... Also briefly, a look at the German rocket plane ME-263, Dornier bombers, the ME-109 and more... Of course, lots of familiar American WWII aircraft, plus a CG-4A glider snatch by a C-47... Background music by big bands of the Forties, notably the opening Glen Miller number, "In the Mood" (from back when music was music)...Freeman Army Airfield was closed down in 1946 and is now Freeman Airport serving Seymour, Indiana...

A neat airshow video from 1945. Click below:

Just this week I was thinking how lucky I was to have been born in 1939. During my early years I got to learn some real values that have lasted me all my life. The aviation that was then is gone but we are so lucky to have been a witness to it. No wonder we have all been infected with this love of our times. That we build models that we fly and enjoy. Yes we are the lucky ones. The young people did not have the benefit of the things we experienced. That may be why things are so screwed up. Thanks for posting this I really enjoyed it and will save it.

Guess I'll have to miss this one. I will not go to facebook or Twitter since I try to avoid contamination of my computer. I have twice lost business data due to viruses, One time it even wiped out an external drive. No matter how safe the sites might be, I just will not take a chance

I was born about three weeks before Pearl Harbor. Guess we're all getting up there.

Where are we headed? That video brought a very sad sentiment and at the same time it made me feel very lucky to have witnessed and lived my own lifetime.
Where are we headed?

I do not know. Those were the days when commitment, true love, respect and discipline were valued very high. I do not miss an opportunity to talk and learn from the folk that have a history to tell and keep for the future. A few years ago, as a Cubmaster,  we stayed overnight at the USS Massachusetts. My son and I wondered through the ship as it was open to all for the day and night. We bounced into a room that had three older fellows. They were working on reviving the old  radio room equipment and making it functional again. The three of them were part of the actual crew! The stories that my son and I were fortunate to hear, are priceless. I will never forget.
Thank you so much for sharing this web location with all of us. To all, please continue to submit history recaps for us to enjoy

 H^^

Here's a WW2 relic that I thought I'd never see airworthy again. I believe it's using an Allison engine and I understand it's headed to collector in the united States.

WOW! Thanks for this Larry. I'm gonna keep this one. It brings back memories when I was little and my mom would take me by a couple of buses from Flushing ALL THE WAY out to Hempstead to Mitchill Field to see the air showes they had. Thanks again.----LOUIE

You can see the relief and fascination of people as the realize the war is finally over. Genuine smiles. The lack of barriers around the aircraft displays speaks for itself. People had manners and common sense back then. Neat video.
