Age Of World Camps and Nats Winners
« on: October 19, 2007, 05:44:28 PM »
I am trying to obtain the ages (at the time of their win) of National and World Champion events in order to determine the oldest winner and the average age of each.
Wynn Paul ,the PAMPA historian said he has NO firm data.
It would be nice if we could come up with this info for history,s sake
I don,t make a habit of double posting but I feel this is a worthy thing and everyone that can help will.

Charly,

I'll start the bidding.

When I won the Walker Cup in 2000 I was 57.  Billy won the world Champs in 2004 and by my reckoning he was at least 62 at the time.  My guess is those are the oldest.

I am with Ted.  I am pretty sure Billy was 62 when he won the 2004 World Champs.  Exact months/days, I am not sure of since I do not know his actual birth date. (never asked! LOL!!)

Does anyone believe the record of 32 years between Championships can be broken?  That is a simply awesome accomplishment.  Possible, but not likely to happen again.

Its been 35 years since I won (but I was not the youngest), & I'll continue to be driven by a mix of optimism & wishful thinking!  y1

But I really hope I do not have to wait until I'm 63!  HB~>

I think the YOUNGEST Walker cup winner is Davey Slagle.  I think Gerry Cipra would be next.  Bill Werwage & I both won as seniors; I was 18, not sure about Billy's age because the Senior age group ran to 21 when he was in Senior.

Davis Slagle was 13 when he won the first Walker Cup in '46.  He also won in '47 and '48.

When my turn came in '70, I was 30.

Hi Brother Dennis,

I saw Big Art (spent as much time with him as I could!) this weekend.  He seemed to be having more fun than any of the rest of us, including Danny Banjock!!!

As to the "32 years between *Championships*" I was only referring to Billy's *World Championships*.  Sorry for the confusion! ;D
