BREAKING NEWS: Possible Glue Shortage !!!
« on: January 25, 2021, 09:53:11 AM »

Yes that may be true. I retired this past Friday, and after getting some really messed up stuff around here back in order, I intend to do a lot of building and that may create a shortage in the glue supply! I'm stocked up with lots of CA in the freezer, lots of carpenters glue, and a reasonably large stash of actual Ambroid!! Lot's of kits, a really large stash of balsa and other building supplies.  Gallons and gallons of dope to use up.  Miles of Monkote waiting to be unrolled.

This is only my first day at this so I got to flatten out the learning curve, but I think I'm up to teh challenge!

When people find out that I’m retired (this March it will be 6 years) they always ask me "how’s retirement going"? I tell them, whenever people tell you that "retirement is great". I tell them that they are all wrong.

Retirement is much, much better than great!

Congratulations!

Loved my Buster, 1st truly stunt capable plane I had as a kid, but what captured my eye is that tank.  Looks like pure suction with airstream pressure.  How do you fill it?

The tank is uniflow...   Filled through the inboard tube.  The overflow is seen right behind the head of the motor....    App 2 3/4 oz

Dan, congrats on the retirement.   Unless you set a schedule you will not find time to do every thing.  But it is great to sleep in once in a while or if you don't feel like doing any thing, don't do it.  I still wonder how I have lasted this long.  Did have an incentive to retire with the Phone company giving a lump sum to retire and I had to wait on social security as I was not 62 yet.  So have a ball in your retirement. I can't imagine what it would be like to have "nothing" to do........ I've been retired (I like to say gainfully unemployed) since the early 90's and I don't know when I had time to work! y1

When I was working and said I was saving for retiring, people would say “But what would you do then?” My answer was “What couldn’t I do then?” Only been on the beach for 17 years and haven’t gotten bored yet. Still Margaritis in the pitcher and kits in the closet.

You will soon be saying what my late father, an engineer, said to me a few months after he retired: "I don't know how I ever had the time to go to work!".  And he wasn't even an aeromodeller - just a keen amateur photographer who did all his own processing.
You want to make 'em nice, else you get mad lookin' at 'em!

Congratulations Dan

I've seen many folks unable to keep busy and enjoy their retirement.   Hobbies, volunteering and relationships keep me busy.  I suspect you will have the same experience.  Savor every minute!

Congratulation Dan. Been retired for sixteen years, and remember the first Monday after I retired. I went into my building room to start another plane. For us guys it is great. Some people have trouble with it as they have no plan. They usually go back to work part time. Not me. I sure do not do the things I use to but still enjoy the things I can.

Now if the government would stay out of our hobby, we can continue. Not likely with the present administration. They will try to control everything we do. Like you, I have several hobbies. I love playing my old guitar and riding my old Harley.

I take my wife out on a lunch date every Tuesday. We are so blessed to have been together for 61 years. Now we finally get to spend our life together. She introduces me as her lucky husband, and that is the truth. She has supported me in what ever I have wanted to do since day one.

I am her lucky husband. We really enjoy each other company. She has her own hobbies. Genealogy, and water color painting. I steal her brushes.

The only negative about it is everyone who hears you're retired figures now you have time to do all kinds of favors for them. Yeah, well, they usually don't get too angry when you tell them no once in a while...

BTW, I was retired here when Sean went though AIT at Fort Huachuca. I remember him building a Nobler in the barracks. Drill sergeant okayed it, as long as the room was kept clean enough to pass daily inspection! It was...

Regards, sounds like you'll enjoy...

Dan; I think you are wrong! If you are anything like me, you will wonder how you ever had any time to go to work and maintain a hobby like ours.

Life became very busy for me when I became gainfully unemployed. (I'm a private land surveyor)

Cheers, Jerry
