Hi James,
Having built a few profiles over the years from plans that were meant to be full fuselage, I don't see a noticeable problem in your "Sport" flier doing the same. The '57 Nobler was the first one I *converted* (after a crash destroyed the fuselage! LOL!!) and it flew as well as ever. That was in about 1965. The "main" problem with profiles, as you know, is not having enough substance, sometimes, to keep away engine vibrations. That and they are more prone to twisting in the aft end.
Tell him to pick a plane and just make the fuselage a profile! It has been done many, many times. And even some WERE competition planes.
