A very special day...
« on: April 09, 2011, 05:57:11 PM »
37 years ago this day of the week, (the Saturday after my 11th Birthday) I held a control line handle in my hands for the very first time and made an attempt to fly a model airplane and today (the same Saturday after my Birthday only 37 years later) my youngest son Jesse (12 yr. old) flew his very first flight with a control line model airplane.

The plane used today was the prototype of the Jess-ter. We kitted the Jess-ter approx. 4 years ago with the hopes of it being a good profile for people to learn how to fly with.  It was the maiden flight for the Jess-ter prototype as well.

The name of the kit was a play on words; his name is Jesse Tyler, he is our little comedian and also that it was our profile version of the Galloping Comedian, so we called it the "Jess-ter"

anyhow...

Many of you other fathers know the emotional part of seeing one of your children fly for the very first time, now add in the the use of a plane that we redesigned from an OTS plane to a profile trainer that actually did what it was intended to do and then the fact that it is also the same day of the same month that I started flying or at least attempted to learn to fly.

Thanks to Gene Martine for supplying the stuff needed to get the plane in the air and teaching Jesse to fly 3 solid flights and also to everyone at the contest today in St. Augustine, Fl. that helped him get in the air and encourage him with positive comments when he did the Touch and STOP. The Touch and STOP did no harm to plane or Jesse' feelings as several made him fully aware that the ground has jumped up at them on several occasions.

Again many thanks to Gene and all the rest. I hope you guys enjoy the pictures...

The only bad news is Jesse asked to bring his friends back, it looks like Gene's going to get quite a workout.

Look Ma...  I'm flyin

Thank you and God Bless

Way to go, Jesse! Good to see another youngster take wing. You'll be wanting to build a full boat stunter in no time.
I know a good kit guy I could recommend. ;D

How Cool! Really nice that your taking the time to teach the (your!) younger generation the fun of C/L flying! Hope he's a future Nats champ!

Way to go Dad! And great job Jesse!

I remember that too well with my son.

And don't worry about getting a work out..... After a few times it will be just start the engine and let-her go.
