y1 I am gonna conduct a sperement on spectra 30lb test lines.
First is soak some of the lines in fuel overnight to check the effect..
Second is making the line ends up like we do on steel cables, wrapping A M A style...
Third all tests will be using 1/2A models for safety..
Hopefully I will have some results by mid week.. #^

Do some where you tie the lines off to a bight (I think that's the right word) -- I've heard a rumor that that's the "AMA way" for Spectra-type line, and at any rate I've seen comments that that's the 'right' way to do it.
My personal experience is tying it off to miniature line clips (which are very bight-like); I've only had one failure and that was after the model went slack on the lines and made it almost halfway across the circle before it came tight again with a huge jerk -- and the crash was on a subsequent flight on the same lines (I think I learned something from that).

Gil, get in touch with Bill Wilson here in Dallas. He has done lots of tests with knots, connections, breaking strength, etc. He probably has the most experience of anyone around here with Spectra lines.

I like sperement gum!
The little 1/2A job I used to have had fishin' lines (spectra).
The knot was critical, especially when lubed with castor/ engine exhaust. If anything is going to fail it will be that.

you might also get ahold of the combat guys, they have been sperimenten with them thar spectral lines too,,

If you do use knotted ends, wet the thread before pulling it tight. It will pull tighter without abrasion. I have had no further failures in knotted ends as I did with dry tying.
