Title: A shout out to the flyers at VSC
Post by: Paul Wescott on March 18, 2014, 10:13:07 AM
Best of luck in the events to Knights of the Round Circle Stan Tyler and John Wright, and also to Frank Bowman!  Represent!!!

Now that the winners have been announced, all other lurkers may feel free to post their friends names below.  =)

And a Great Big Thank You to everyone running the show.  May it go on for many years to come.

The only event that was decided today was Old Time Ignition.  Frank McMillan won.
I'm sorry but I don't remember 2nd and third but I'm sure one of those places was Jim Lee.

Old Time Glow has more flights tomorrow. Classic starts Thursday!

PS:  I'll try to post some photos tomorrow.  I was too busy as ED for OT Ignition today!

I thought ignition was run two like Old Time.   Guess the old mind is going.  Hope you guys/gals are having great stunt weather.  Had snow here last Sunday and its been windy every day with temps in the 30F degrees.  I miss being there, but I got some work done on the King Sweep.   Should fly better than a couple of years ago.

No Doc, Your Old Mind is doing OK.  Unfortunately there were only 6 entries in OT Ignition so it was decided (by the fliers), to make both flights today...great weather and air up to about noon when things got a little rough but everything was finished by then...including OT Glow!

As expected in Ignition there were several glitches in engines running and some expected delays...tough day for several folks...You have to hand it to these guys that do it this way...The best make it look easy...but it ain't!!!

Last year, at VSC, not a single picture of the spark ignition aircraft was posted for our enjoyment (or scrutiny).

I hope the resident photographers will tear themselves away from the "mainstream" top flyers' planes to give us a hint of the ignition event?

I'd like to see that too. How about a head count from there?

News from VSC has been sparse at best. Is anyone going to send us some pictures? Dave Russum is not there this year and Gene Martine can't be everywhere. I guess we will have to wait for Gene's CD. Not having news and pictures is frustrating.

I don't have any pictures, but can tell you that OTS ended today.  Lou Wolgast won; Bob Whitely was 2nd.  In the Ringmaster event it looked like Gaylord Elling, DDS, San Antonio, won - though I may have read that wrong.  (He also did rather well in the regular OTS event.)

Frank McMillan won Ignition by a good margin.

No, I don't have full results.  All I can tell you is that entries were WAY down from prior years.  33 signed-up for OTS, but 10 either scratched or were no-shows.  Thus Official flights were done early.

No word yet on the number of Classic entries.  Will have that info tomorrow.

I'm anxious for some pics too Tom but please remember that there are some regulars that are not there this year, Allen Brickhaus for one.  :(

 Is Elwyn out there?

I do have some pictures of OT Ignition but haven't had time to process them yet to reduce them down for the forum...

Just got back from Classic appearance judging.  Some very pretty airplanes as usual.  I also have a lot of pictures of thoe but it will have to wait until tomorrow because I'm very tired...and old and have to get up early.

I can tell you that Old Time Glow was won by Lou Wolgast with his beautifu Madman.  I'll post pictures of the scoreboard and some airplanes tomorrow.

Thanks Randy for the update. Man! I wish I was there, but it just did not work out for me this year. Congrats to Frank for winning Ignition.

It's been hectic for Linda Bob and I- she'sbusy pitting and I'm in ALL the events. Lots of running to and fro trying to be where I'm supposed to be when I'm supposed to be.
Floyd's Wildman 60 design performed its usual perfect flying, but my Orwick 64's coil blew. Joe Gilbert may have had the same problem, but he couldn't get in a pattern. Anyone want to start a cottage industry making NEW coils that work? I managed a complete pattern in Spark, but had to communicate to the judges I was doing one lap between tricks, just like last year. On que, the coil failed after the Square Loop, but the Wildman with its huge wing glided effortlessly two or three laps in the perfect conditions.
OTS with the same plane on glow got a respectable 300+, beautiful 2x4 break. Next day the pilot had the jitters and even bounced his level flight...not too shabby a score, but far short of any award marks.
Don Hutchinson's MOITLE flw beautiful, the inverted spark Torpedo 32 started easily, but ran afoul about half way throught the flight. It accomplished a nice loop and flew really well...after all, Don built it.
Dee Rice's Ringmaster won the "Pilot's Choice".... I drove a thousand miles to fly his Ringmaster, for about the tenth time! Again, beautiful wx. Gotta' get goin'....its starting to dawn and I haven't even begun to prepare for Classic with my aged "Skylark". I'll fix the typos later,
dale g
