Tom Morris and John Simpson payed me a visit to drop off some stuff. I invited them up to my disaster workshop. After returning home he sent me pictures of his shop. I could really get some work done there! It just would not look the same after I was done. LOL

Super shop.....DROOL

I like those airplane racks, are they pvc or wood? Must be great to have that much space.

I think I remember reading that all of the wood Tom used for the cabinets was recycled from the University of Georgia's Basketball court. Very nice indeed, looks like he could build about any thing!! I really like the small vertical mill/lathe. Been shoping for one myself.

Thanks Ty for the clarification on that. Its been many years since I read about his shop. Nevertheless it is the coolest shop around. Maybe a new subject for the forum?? Pic's of
everyones work space. Might be able to get some good ideas by sharing the info.

In the picture with the placques, outside it looks like "4" airconditioner compressor units - wow ! how big is that place ? To die for is right !
-
I love Tom like a brother but a shop that clean just HAS to be either iilegal or immoral!
-
My own shop is bigger, cleaner, nicer. But I'm just too humble to show pictures.

I keep thinking that EVERY DAY when I'm done working I should spend some time cleaning my shop.
I never do, and it's a pit. Oh well...
-
I'd just as soon live with what I got.
-
I'd kill to have that much free space. But I'm an organizing freak for the room I have and am always consolidating stuff for more space. The change to electric is going to yield more room when I clean out the engine and fuel stocks which are considerable.

I remember pictures of Tom's shop several years ago and it also had hardwood floors from the recycled Navy wood and built in duct system.
Was that a different location ?

This would never work in Wisconsin unless one had a heated garage! What a great example of what a workshop can be,
-
That's not a shop, that's an airplane factory. ;D

Howard's shop is also exemplary. D>K Steve

Tom built the original shop with the idea that he would build a 1/2 or 3/4 scale P-61 and learn to fly....

I was begining to think I had a Balsa Wood problem . Compulsive Aquisition . But I see others have more expansive collections . Very Reasuring . S?P
Dosnt he keep it tidy . Wonder how he gets the balsa dust to dematerialise .

Hi guys,
I have heard Tom's shop facilities enviously called the "Shop Mahal" by flyers who visited Tom, but I never saw any pictures before. Very Good

I would have to start as a custodian or clerk and would have to go through extensive training to do those simple skills, to meet Tom's standards... mw~ Absolutely, beautiful and would like to know what his daily routines for building and cleanup... H^^

I know another individual that builds in his garage as well as parks his cars there. Attended a dinner in his shop/garage and it was spotless. His Dad said he had been like that all his life. The guys/gals in Colorado know him, Lynn Boss. Need to get back out there again. Would love to see Tom's place in person. Have seen John Brodaks place also.

I'd honestly be afraid to work in this shop LL~

My mom was a great cook. She said, "There are many good cooks in the world. A GREAT cook is one who cleans up the kitchen afterwards."
I try to extend that idea to my shop. It's hard going. At least, I keep it clean enough so that I can always find anything I'm looking for.
Don't get obsessed with cleaning. It will take time away from building something.

My uncle had a (machine) shop. At one point he told me there was so much stuff in it he was categorizing things as big or small.
Is this the Tom Morris building service? How do you contact him? Can someone PM his phone number.
