A salute to Dan Banjock - Brodak's
« on: June 19, 2013, 05:53:27 PM »
I am a member of Team Canada and we won
the junkyard wars at Brodak's this year. We had
the points and we won...
....BUT!
A lot of what we do in this activity is about
presentation and risk taking and sportsmanship.
For those of you unfortunate enough not to be there,
you missed Dan and a bunch of kids building a plane
from fruit crates, in one hour, and flying it in competition
against some of the best flyers on the continent.
No joking.
Anyone who knows me will tell you that I wouldn't
give anything extra to a competitor just because
they're a kid. BTW some of these kids were
very small indeed!
I'm trying to remember the kid's names.
I know "Sam" the girl who has been flying here for
the past three years and her friend "Jo" and
Aiden and his little brother (Cory?) who did the best
landing in Junk Wars history. I'm sorry I forgot the
others names.
While the rest of us were absorbed in our
CL pursuits, Dan organized the kids and they
formed a strategy. EVERYONE would get a chance
at the handle. Dan would fly the required qualifier
10 laps but then it was down to the kids.
They flew as well as anyone could have.
It could have resulted in a quick crash or a
stupid move but instead the handle passed from
team member to team member and finally into
the hand of their smallest member who executed
the slickest landing anyone has ever seen.
Thank you Dan for showing me that winning isn't
really winning unless it's done with style, grace and
humanity.

I've only met Dan once, but I wish he would move here to St. Louis! As fun as this hobby is, he makes it even more fun, and he's got a cool first name!

DB has always been and probably always will be a party looking for a circle to happen in!! He's a great example of how this hobby/sport is supposed to be enjoyed!

Brodak would not be the same if we weren't present. The stuff that he has and the show he puts on for everyone is very entertaining. He's also more than willing to help you out if you have a problem, or show you how something works (like a pulsejet).

Oh yea, he can also fly a mean stunt pattern!

Sam is growing into one gorgeous young lady.   I admire Dan for what he is doing and has done.

Afirm when that little boy flew and landed the plan and the hug he gave Dan ....that is priceless.
