Title: A Sad Day
Post by: Dan McEntee on May 30, 2019, 09:39:29 PM
There are many musicians who fly stunt or model airplanes in general, and we have several instrument craftsmen among us also, who will know what I'm talking about.

It was announced today that Leon Redbone has passed away. I just got off You Tube and watched some videos of his to remember him by. I first saw him on Saturday Night Live in it's first season and was a fan right away. It definitely would not be cliche that he was one of a kind. I just don't know how to describe him to anyone, so just search You Tube and enjoy some genuine talent. I like my rock and roll, and my blues, and many other kinds of music, but Leon Redbone just hit that certain chord in me that no one else can come near. I like to put it this way, if you don't like him, you don't like corn bread!

Shine on Mr. Redbone and R.I.P.

He was quite a unique talent. I have some pictures I took at a concert when I was in college, maybe I will dig out the negatives and scan them.

Leon Redbone was cooler than cool.
He did a bunch of gigs on Saturday Night Live and Johnny Carson.
He did some Budweiser commercials singing “This Buds for You”
He was the Fonzie of the music world.
Rest In Peace Mr. Redbone, you were the epitome of cool.

This is indeed sad news. Leon lived just a few minutes south of me. My guitar teacher/long time friend, Chip Mergott (another amazingly gifted musician...) lives in the next town over from where Leon lived, and often saw him at the local supermarket shopping. He said that Leon was always very friendly and had time always to stop and chat. He had been sick for a while apparently.

Godspeed Mr. Redbone; you were a unique talent indeed!

"Lazy Bones", "Walking Stick", and who doesn't like "I Wanna Be Seduced" ?? Time to check the record and 8 track tape collection to see what I actually have.
    Type at you later,

I guess I feel somewhat cheated by my own ignorance.  I spent over 25 years as a part time professional Opera Singer and never (to my knowledge) heard Leon Redbone sing and play.  Too bad!

I plan to rectify that mistake immediately.  Truly a very unique soul and singer.

Thanks for the "heads up".

Sad indeed. First Leon Redbone and a day later, Roky Erickson. In my defense, at least I knew who Leon Redbone was, and had listened to his works on UTube.  :'(  Steve

If you don't know Roky, I didn't either...not bad. Kind of similar to Bob Dylan.

I first saw him play in 1985....and I was stunned that he was younger than I! I figured he was about 90 by now....
Cool guy

I saw him years ago at WolfTrap.  He was a terrific entertainer.  Just lots of fun.  Sad to see him go.
