I beat my 15 gram prediction

Today I de-molded the spinner and put them on the scale. I have not made the nose cone bolt yet and I will post that later today. But pulmonary results are for the two parts I do have mare are. Aluminum spinner and back plate weights are 35 grams less the 8 gram bolt. My spinner weighs with back plate 8 grams .I am thinking I can make the bolt in 3 grams. SO my total is 11 grams as opposed to 43 grams. A weight savings of 1.23 ounces off the nose. Now this can be used in design. If you take 1.23 off the nose you will have to make the tail lighter. This will mean if designed and built right a 3 ounce savings off the total gross weight.

I will post proof videos later.

Sparky,

Instead of taping the mold shut, why don't you cut another cup in half with the bottom removed and slip it over the mold to hold it closed?

Seems simple enough to me.

Jerry

PS: You might want to make the nose a little longer instead of lighting an already light (weak) tail.......... Just asking.

Another cup is a good idea.

Also you could cut a relief slot on both side of the mold to get the spinner out.  Put mold release on the inside of the pinner next time as well so it lets go easier.

Just a thought or two.

Release agent work for making the mold but not casting. The other cup idea was already tried. It does not hold the gap together well enough. Thanks everyone for your input. This mornings short followup clip in a few minutes.stand by

Just curious why mold release on the inside of the spinner wouldnt work?

It would work for making the first mold. But casting how would you get it sprayed inside the one piece mold evenly? The castings do come out easier anyway. I blow air into the top and they pop out.

That came out great!  On the first try too.

You said you are using Task4? It has composite material in it?  Or is it straight epoxy type material? I am interested in it.

I heard you reference something in the first video about the process.  Did you get the idea for how you made the mold from somewhere else?  The idea is really pretty slick.

I know thats alot of questions.  I like to learn things.

I watched vase mold making, car hood molding and 100 other non related topics to figure out what would work best in my application. If I sell some of my gear, arming plugs, wheel pants, motors, and spinners to recoup my outlay I will also do some infusion molding. The is a machine grade epoxy type casting resin for making thin wall parts. I could add carbon but I was told no need.

Back when I was working on M/Cs I used compressed air to blow the old handlebar grips loose from the bars. WD40 works too, but it's messy. Just try the air next time, it is a great releasing agent. ;D

Well shux, you musta heard me this morning...LOL I just went back and found the newest video, then read your comment.  Always a day late. n~
