A Perfect Day
« on: April 12, 2008, 11:03:47 PM »
Well, I went flying today (shocking considering the recent weather around here). It was 78 degrees, a fair and mild wind from the west and flying at the Tacoma Narrows airport was really terrific. The airport sits on a hill that is actually surrounded on 3 sides by water (the Sound Narrows for which the airport takes part of it's name). You can see the Olympic Mountains off to the northwest and while you can't actually see the water from where we fly, it is close. The area has decent pavement and is a pretty nice site. We should have use of it for a couple of years (until they plow the area under to build additional hangers ... sigh).

In attendance were Pete Peterson, Pete Ferguson, Mike Havely and me. Wish I had gotten there sooner. They had been flying a couple of hours when I showed up. But it was a pretty nice day. Wish they could all be like this. Only thing better would have been if I had remembered my camera.

Great to hear you had a great day.  As I type this I am watching snow flakes falling.  This on April 13th.  My wife's aunt said the only reason she now lives in Arizona instead of Portland was the humidity.  Keep having fun guys.  DOC Holliday

Sorry Paul,

I'll take my camera next time. The weather today is back to the usual. Overcast and threatening rain.

Well, Randy, your beautifull weather made it over to our side of the mountains today! Went ot Pasco for a club meeting,(for those not knowing Pasco is 140 miles from where I live, but since I am the prez I kinda gotta go ya know) What a gorgeous day, light steady 3 to 5 mph breeze, a few scattered fluff clouds. Got there and the rest of the guys showed up. Only one problem, the sports car club had our asphalt littered with cones for their Autocross event! dang guys,, well at least we had our club meeting. No other site to fly so back home after the meeting,, 300 miles and narry a flight. wouldnt have been quite so bad but the weather of late ,, well lets just say, it snowed tuesday and wednsday here in Pullman..... sigh,,
well I guess I will find out how good my muscle memory is for next weekends contest in Portland.
For years the rat race had me going around in circles, Now I do it for fun!

Mark,

Do you know if Pat is coming to Portland? Haven't heard from him. I suspect I will just take off early Saturday morning and come back Sunday. Can't take any extra time off for awhile.

Randy,
last I heard he was coming. Not sure of his agenda. He was in Houston for the Ringmaster contest with Dee this weekend.  I am pretty sure he will be back tomorrow?

No Pat and a few others didn't show up either because someone said the weather was going to be bad. We need to talk about that one. seems as bad publicity does not help a contest. as well as gas prices. HB~> HB~> HB~>

Leo,
truthfully, for me the weather was only one small part of the  reason I didnt make it, same with Pat. My main reason was that I havent flown since last October, and I only have one year of experience, not 10 or 15, so coming in cold to fly in front of judges wasnt a good thing. I have enough trouble keeping my planes out of the ground as it was. I sure missed it though, spent all weekend thinking about the contest and wishing things were different. the weather forcast did have some to do with it,, but certainly not the only reason

Leo,

Same for me. The weather was just a side light. I had another commitment becuase I misread the dates of the contest. Just as well, I suffered all weekend with a bad tooth. I see the dentist in about an hour. Bad enough having this and sitting at an indoor horse arena.

Hi Randy,

I wish I could fly.  Just get out and fly..........  The weather turns good and the fields fill up with soccer and softball.  No matter where it is!  We have a situation where the adults have informal leagues and take over the fields.  They don't even bother to go through the Rec Dept., and since it is a *ball* sport, the authorities are on their side even if they are not residents of our town! Kinda makes me mad.

I *might* have to get three or four members of the RNMM and follow a few home at a time.  Then we can come back later and.............

I do feel like that sometimes! ;D

A good thing is that the R/C club where my son lives is looking into opening a circle there.  It's between out houses, about 15-20 miles from here, all highway.  That will make it a LOT easier!

OK you guys are forgiven but wait till I see Matt Safino our channel 8 weather forcaster. The only thing he got right was the cold air and the wind on Saturday.  n~ n~ n~ HB~>

Marshall Busby and myself ,went out yesterday to fly stunt.
Worse thing happened ,the sun was down wind and yours truly (cousin weak eyes)looked to see what that was coming out from behind that black cloud. Bout burned out my eyeballs. Ruined my flight.
The best thing happened , Marshall tried a new prop with Great! results. Yours truly tried his new Randy Smith
tuned OS La46 in his old ,troublesome ,PT19. Thought I would take it out and get started on the needle adjusting
and tank height setting. First flight right  on ! didn,t change a thing for the four flights. Just flew and smiled.
Only hitch was , about ten seconds left after the pattern before the engine quit. This on 4.5 .oz.
A very good ,enjoyable  day. Looking for many more ( I hope , I hope) :D
