A new round the pole system
« on: December 23, 2015, 11:17:44 PM »
Hi guys,

Did anyone spot this one from Hobby King?? http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__90808__Flyline_Room_Raiders_Golden_Eagle_P51D.html

Looks cute and is a new slant on the old RTP stuff.

Anybody remember the Matel "Dare Plane Stunter" from the 1970's?  In a way it sort of taught me the basics of how to get airborne with a c/l model.

WalMart sold something like this about a year or so ago.  Planes look similar.  Different decorations and packaging.   They did work and were fairly resilient.

Looks like it could be a hoot inside a room.

Does anyone remember the WenMac Electra Mustang from the late 50's?  It had a base in the center with batteries and the motor with a pull string to outside the "circle".  So you could take off, fly laps, and land - all in the living room.  Great fun when I was 5.

Dang;

I could see this at one of the stunt contests as a way for the top 3 in each class to fly against one another for total laps in so many minutes.

Winner takes all.   LL~ LL~ #^ #^ ~>

This makes me Puke.
Orestes Perdomo, a life time stunt flyer and professional model builder invented, designed and developed these things.
A large marketing operation here in Miami shook hands with him and then sent Orestes to China so he could oversee the production and control the quality since they could not create the final product without him. The Chinese kept making the planes to heavy.
All problems resolved, production started, Walmart bought a bunch and I even played a small part by connecting this operation to the hobby industry.

"They never paid Orestes" and probably never intended to. Last I heard lawyers were involved but you just know Orestes is gonna get screwed.
He spent several years and a bunch of energy on that little toy but now he's back to doing what he loves-----building stunt planes for himself and RC jets for rich guys.

I see people my age out there climbing mountains and zip lining and here I am feeling good about myself because I got my leg through my underwear without losing my balance

The Walmart and Hobby King versions are made by the same company. Flyline. I got the Spitfire for Samuel at least 4 years ago. For what it is, it flies very well and is quite fun. RC transmitter with throttle and elevator control. You can use  3 6 or 9ft line depending on the size of your flying area. It's a fun toy for not much money.

Hi Les, that is sick. Orestes is such a nice guy as well. Having been down the patented toy road myself a few times, I know what's involved and unless you have loads of financial clout on your side, then you end up with a gentlemanly trust agreement. Sadly this mostly does not work for the inventor. I always say that a patent is like owning a .44 Magnum with no bullets. Such a pity that good old trust and honesty are scarce commodities these days.
