Title: A metaphor close to home
Post by: Terry Caron on November 06, 2015, 09:10:58 AM
Maybe more free flight than control line, but these are in my front yard this morning, just wandering back and forth along the fence.
Reminds me of my planes and my flying.

Some of you may never have seen wild turkeys before except on a label.  ;D
Note the long, thin drumsticks compared to domestic turkeys.
Hmmm, Thanksgiving and Christmas are on the way.......

Here in Shawnee we have a group of wild turkeys like in your pic.  Also have seen deer, raccoon,  possum, Canadian geese and a red fox.  I know it was a red Fox as it came right by me while on crossing duty.  Animal control almost caught him/her.

Those turkeys taste good when fixed right.  Some people say they are little gamey.

They're still there after more than an hour - wish my trigger finger would stop twitching!!

And best wishes for your recovery Doc.

I know little of wild turkey habits but these two hens have been walking back and forth along a 40' stretch of fence for over 6 hours now.
I've heard all my life about how "wily" they are, have to wear camo on  everything to hunt - I go outside and they basically ignore me.
Seems camo manufacturers may over-hype things.

Strange birds they are. These were walking around in my front yard a few years ago. I was out in the back yard using the chain saw cutting up some tree limbs, and there were a whole bunch of them running all around me like I was not there.

I have a creek running through the back of the place. We regularly see Deer going up and down the creek. We also have Racoon, Fox, Possum, Doves, Hawks, and a while back we had three Wild Turkeys walk through. I did not know that there were any wild Turkeys this far North in Illinois. We are about 35 miles South of the center of Chicago. The Turkeys are neat to watch.

Sometimes I have to slow for turkeys crossing the road on my way through Fort Jackson on the way to fly. It's a huge base with a rich habitat for all kinds of animals. Lots of good hunting and fishing out there.

Those 2 birds spent *literally* all day walking back and forth by the fence, never making a sound, finally moving into the wood to roost at sunset.
It's as though they wanted over but were completely dumbfounded by the fence.
Maybe they'll get lucky in the morning and accidentally fly down on the other side.

Easy way for your trigger finger to stop twitching. Lock, load, and pull that darn trigger, twice. They just look tasty in that picture. ::)
