Title: A look at the Airbender (formally the Windwalker)
Post by: Mike Griffin on September 23, 2010, 02:02:26 PM
Here is a look at the Airbender plans and a closeup of some key areas.  I plan to have this kit ready for release by the first of the year.

It has been said that George Aldrich's Nobler begat all modern stunt planes so I cannot take credit for being a genius that came up with some great new design than mankind has never seen before.  What I did try to go was to come up with a plane that would have sleek classic looking lines and be a good flyer at the same time.

The Airbender borrows the fuselage from Jean Pailet's classic design of the Playmate and Zephyr which were designed in the early 60's.  I enlarged the fuselage so it would accommodate the Wing and Stab of the Encore which was designed by Allen Brickhaus and is known to be a great stunter.  Allen was a great consultant to me in doing this.  One new twist we did do was to sweep the wingtips and stab tips out to giveit that Airbender look.

I truly hope you like this looks of this plane as much as I enjoyed working on it.

Mike

Hey, it has a big wing in front and a little one in back.  The engine is in front, and there is a vertical tail.  That is an exact copy of MY design.   S?P

Gosh Larry,  think I should put the little wing up front and the big one in back so I don't mess with your design.   ;D ;D n1 n1 LL~ LL~

A lot of "custom" planes look like an Impact, too.

I deleted the whole thread and started it again due to a post that could have gone somewhere it did not need to go on a public forum and was not in the interest of anyone except the person who posted it for personal reasons.

That is about the best explanation I can give at this time.

Thanks

Mike

Or one of Teddy's Trivial *sumthinortethers*! LOL!!  Lost count of the "Trivials" and their fore bearers....... And the Imitation seems to be the same (as Ted planned it). ;D

Wynn Paul's "Pampa Machine" had some *clones in design* come about, too, IIRC.

There are STILL models based on others, even today.  A fuselage look from here, a wing tip outline from there, here a rudder shape, there a fin... everybody quack, quack.......  :o :-[ n~ #^

Mine is a Juno drawn over a Saturn with Bob and Billy's ideas added.  13 years old and going strong! LL~

Hi John,

All I can say is that I didn't yank any posts.  I always inform th emember when I do (and I have).

We did lose some materials/posts due to a crash a while back.  Sparky explained that, but I haven't heard anything about it from him recently. ???  I am as much at a loss as you are.

Mike, I must apolgise for airing an issue, even in the most veiled manner I could, on a public forum. I should have contacted you directly. The issue still remains though. I called you yesterday, got your machine, and left a message.

I'm sure we can talk this over, and resolve the issue. I look forward to talking.

I hope this doesn't require another name change.

Better not,  or I will the Red Neck Mofia Group after the person that causes it. LL~ LL~ I can remember the 70's when if seen one plane you seen them all.  Even all the designs that used Nobler wings and tails with minor outline changes.

You reach an age to where the struggle is just not that important anymore. Could be 'Low T' as advertised on TV. But for someone to get really upset over a new plane using a name they used years ago is a little on the self centered side. I mean look at some of our own names.........Doc Holliday????? How many other men named Holliday are also called Doc? It is a great name and if I were a Holliday I would be called that too. Just in case no one has looked R/C also has a plane named Windwalker. Ever notice some of the names of cars? I  mean what is a Solara or Volarea? I always did like the Plymouth Fury and the Dodge Polora with the Golden Commando engine. What about the Super Sport.......now theres a name that brings back memories. Anyone ever hear  of a plane named Super Sport? Everyone knows what a Suburban looks like and who the name belongs to but did you know that in 1950 a Suburban was a Plymouth station wagon? So things change and names stay the same. Airbender sounds like a great name to me. Hmmmmmmmm, maybe my new ship should be called 'Ground Thump' after the sound it makes when it hits the ground nose first......................Jerry
