The attached video was a great piece of editing, working with 1950-vintage 8 & 16 mm black & white movies.

In defense of "Jet Pilot", produced by the late-great Howard Hughes, who did the original biplane epic after The Great War (later renamed WWI).

Howard wanted to make a jet fighter movie and he made a  jet fighter movie.  Unfortunately, by the time it was done, Howard realized it wqs outdated and in accurate.

But, post mortum, the heirs of RKO realized that nothing containing John Wayne, Janet Leigh, and the F-86 Sabre could ever be kept off the screen.

That was funny.  Yes the old movies of war was interesting when pilots would take off in one plane.  Have mid air combat in another type of plane and then land back at base with their plane.   H^^

As an ex F-86 mech I really thought that was pretty pathetic...I can't imagine any air group pulling one apart in the outdoors. Do any of you realize that a supersonic jet fighter is held together with 4 bolts?

The F-86 wasn't supersonic, but the T-38 is.

I've seen 'em pull the tail section off a Thunderbirds T-38, outdoors, then put it back on and fly it. In addition to the 4 bolts, there must be some electric and hydraulic work that calls for some skeels.

The thing I enjoyed the most in that movie was the Russian F-89D's.

An old F-89D Radar Mechanic.

Given the pap coming out of the "entertainment industry", I'll take a corny 60 year ol Jet Pilot movie any day.
My favorites are still Waldo, Airforce and Hell's Angels.

Happy Thanksgiving All!!

Mike
