A great day at the field
« on: June 11, 2024, 11:21:59 PM »
I live on the Olympic peninsula in NW WA; I don’t live at the end of the earth, but I can see it from here.  After several fruitless years of searching for a flying field, I contacted the local R/C club.  They were more than happy to let me fly at the end of their runway.  We finally got a break with the weather today so my elderly father and I met at the field this morning.  He enjoyed launching for me, thereby allowing me to get a plane in the air for the first time in a dozen years.

I’m grateful for the unexpectedly warm welcome from the R/C club, and especially grateful to be able to share a great morning with Dad.  Forty-plus years ago he used to launch my 1/2A planes for me, which is what got me started in this hobby.  He still builds beautiful R/C planes but hasn’t flown in close to five decades.  I ordered an electric R/C trainer called the ‘Apprentice’ for him, which I hope will allow him to get back in the air, too.

Lastly, I’m grateful for the support and shared wisdom of the Stunt Hangar community.  I haven’t posted much until very recently, but I’ve used this forum to keep my finger on the pulse of the hobby for many years.  Now that I’m retired and gave a place to fly, I aim to learn the pattern and someday fly in the NW Regionals.

Most baseball fields are flyable. Stand behind second base and launch from third.
I may be wrong but I doubt it.
I wouldn't take her to a dog fight even if she had a chance to win.

A great story, glad you found a place to fly.  Yes, come join us at the NW Regionals next year!     Mike Hazel (contest director)

Great to hear you have a great group of guy at the RC club field. Are you flying glow or electric? I have found electric is pretty easy to fly at most soccer and baseball fields away from housing.

You are so lucky to have a group that will let you use their field.  Also happy you and your Dad are flying again and have fun on this forum.  You will find things have changed as far as control line. D>K
